Why They're funny:
Terrific song, but that et cetera gets me every time. I guess he needed something to rhyme with 'better' in the fifth bar, but et cetera? In the rest of the song he's going on about how wonderful she is, and how he loves her and wants her to be with him, and then he cuts short his compliments with et cetera? Who is he, the King of Siam?

Why They're funny:
Lots of people missed the joke of this song. The Turtles wanted to do different types of songs, but their record company wanted them to do pop songs like 'Happy Together'. 'Elenore' was kind of a sarcastic way of giving the record company what it wanted. The Turtles meant for the lyrics to sound the way they do. They were being sarcastic about the song.

These two lines are completely redundant. In both lines, he's saying that the girl is the only one for him. Take another look at the two lines and you'll see, even though the order is changed, it means the exact same thing!
We can only conclude that he was just never really right for the girl... or else he would have said so.
