The Lyrics

This was written during the California (Gray Davis) gubernatorial recall election when we had well over 100 different candidates for governer (the number kept changing), So, taking this, Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting career, and the penchant of the California Legislature for NEVER passing a state budget on time, and the horde of bizarre candidates, I give you this.
I've just gotta vote for Arnie, He will save the day
I've just gotta vote for Arnie, he's much more fun than Gray,
It's true we've got a lot of choices, a hundred thirty-five this week,
But when we look upon them closely, We'll find our future bleak.
Larry Flynt is in, So is Huffingtin,
Bustamonte broke the blah - ah - ock
Riordan was too old, and so could not be sold,
But at one hundred it's Mathilda Spak (pronounce "spock")
Someone's got to go to Sacramento,
Someone's got set up shah-ah-ah-op (shop)
Someone's got to deal with the budget,
And we can use a kindergarten cop.

And voting fee fi fiddly-eye-oh,
fee fi fiddly-eye-oh-oh-oh-oh.
Fee fi fiddly-eye-oh,
Going to Sacrament-i-o.

Historical notes: Mathilda Spak was the oldest legally qualified candidate at 100 years old. "Bustamonte broke the block" refers to the fact that he (Cruz Bustamonte) was the first Democrat to break ranks and put his name on the ballot. Many Democrats still regard him as a traitor for this move. Larry Flynt is the publisher of Hustler magazine, and doubtless other slimy products. Riordan is former Los Angeles mayor Richard Riordan (73 at the time) who actually didn't run because he's a personal friend of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ariana Huffington (spelling changed to make it rhyme) is an extreme liberal candidate basically running on her own money. "Kindergarden Cop" is a movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Good parody. He may look good, but will he perform as well?

Basically, when I wrote this, I (none of us really) had any clue how "Arnie" would turn out. Having seen his record, I'd never write this now.

Bob, I just "discovered" this parody and agree with your comment more than with the parody. As a Californian, I can say that we might be marginally better off with with Arnold Schwarzenegger than with Gray Davis, but it probably was not worth the recall election to trade one for the other.
