Christmas in the S.F. Bay Area, California. Once a religious holiday, it now celebrates the great religions of today: Consumerism, Commercialism, and Greed... and I'm always dreaming of a white Christmas.
Splashing Through the Rain
Splashing through the rain, with the Christmas music playin',
Down the road we go, yakking all the way.
Cars on highways honk, making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing commercial songs tonight!
Chorus
Splashing tires, through quagmires, splashing all the way!
O what fun it is to drive with the Christmas music playin'.
Whining kids, pesky sibs, fussing all the way!
O what fun it is to play with toys while folks are payin'!
A day or two ago, we drove off from our home
Now my family bright is here; I am not alone.
The rain was heavy, cold, our decorations hung;
Outside our yard is a huge mass of mud and doggy dung.
(Chorus)
A day or two ago, the story I must tell
I went out in the rain, and it was freezing Hell;
Driving to Aunt Sue's, in our heated little van
My greed for Christmas presents is much more than I can stand!
(Chorus)
Now the ground is wet, and there's no trace of snow
Take this anyway, and affection you must show;
Chop down some poor pine tree, decorations up,
Waking up so early just to see who has more stuff!
(Chorus)
