Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Laura Dekker, 16, has safely arrived to island of Sint Maarten. She is now the youngest to circumnavigate the world solo. You go girl! A sailoress from Finland wishes to congratulate you!
A Dutch girl has sailed over the oceans
A Dutch girl has sailed 'round the world
She has been the youngest to solo
She did it with sails all unfurled

Laura, Laura,
Laura has sail-ed the seas, the seas
Laura, Laura
Now that is girl power, you see!

A Dutch girl did follow the tradewinds
She sailed from the west to the east
She sailed both calm and storm-y waters
And now she has sure earned her feast!

Laura, Laura,
Laura has sail-ed the seas, the seas
Laura, Laura
Now that is girl power, you see!

That Dutch girl is just only sixteen
But she is the right stuff for seas
She's lived most her life at the oceans
Her parents are sailors indeed

Laura, Laura,
Laura has sail-ed the seas, the seas
Laura, Laura
Now that is girl power, you see!

That Dutch girl was born at the oceans
At New Zealand waters, and there
She learned all the ropes and the steering
of yacht, and to read signs of airs

Laura, Laura,
Laura has sail-ed the seas, the seas
Laura, Laura
Now that is girl power, you see!

The Dutch social workers were busted
She arranged them a nasty treat
Her daddy was right, she could do it
And she was right stuff for that feat!

Laura, Laura,
Laura has sail-ed the seas, the seas
Laura, Laura
Now that is girl power, you see!

A Dutch girl has sailed over the oceans
A Dutch girl has sailed 'round the world
She has been the youngest to solo
She did it with sails all unfurled

Laura, Laura,
Laura has sail-ed the seas, the seas
Laura, Laura
Now that is girl power, you see!

If she can do that, then maybe she can take on her country's most notable problem: Teaching Dutchmen not named Robin van Persie how to take penalties. Come to think of it, at age 16, she's just the right age to join RVP at Arsenal. Who are certainly in some rough waters at the moment.

Excellent-555! I saw this in the paper and was going to write on it but would do better with KM or DM material ;-D

Susanna - A worthy achievement celebrated by a worthy achievement! The Netherlands were at one time THE greatest nation of mariners on Earth. In the wars of the seventeenth century, they actually bested the English a few times. It's a pleasure to see you writing again. ;D

Yup - names like Michiel de Ruyter, Cornelis van Tromp and Egbert Kortenaer evoke certain images with every sailor worth his or her salt. Laura Dekker is a proud heiress of a proud legacy.
