The Lyrics

I remember all those great times
At the circus, as a child
Wide eyed wonders and excitement
Are they doomed to be memory filed?

Will The Circus Be Forgotten
Tents up high, Lord, tents up high
Once an annual town tradition
Seems to be passe' ..gone by

Elephants and horse drawn wagons
Would parade proud, down main street
Now they're missing from the landscape
Those old times were hard to beat..

Will The Circus Be Forgotten
Trapeze artists that could fly
Where is that old classic showtime,
Has it gone and passed us by?

Peanuts, popcorn, bears, and lions
Thrills and chills in three ring acts
Funny clowns and bareback riders
Maybe that's what this world lacks..

Will The Circus Be Forgotten
Barnum, Bailey, letters high
Something magic in the Circus,
We can't let this magic die..

I remember in my teen years
Workin' with the set up crew
Carried chairs and large equipment
For free tickets, some pay, too..

Will The Circus Be Forgotten
Modern progress pass it by
There's no better entertainment,
Neath the sky, Lord, 'neath the sky..

Will The Circus Be Forgotten
Tents up high, Lord, tents up high
Once an annual town tradition
Must it die, Lord, must it die?

I like your poetry, however, excuse me for being a "Party Pooper", but animals in circuses are so mistreated. They should be wild and free.

Always love a good show! But the Circus is passe . . .So, I attend the rodeo . . . Also, enjoy a Bullfight, when I'm in Mexico!

Thanks to 2Eag..probably true in some cases..but, I'm not trying to be an animal activist, just a parody writer...and thanks to Lil Cuppy Cakies

Well I don't know about animal activism but I remember the Johnny Weissmueller movie called Tarzan's New York Adventure, or something close to that. He did a job on a circus in that movie that would make your Zulus look tame. Simba, ungowa, yo mama won dollah.

The days of the circus playing in small burgs and towns is past. They only play in big metro areas. We have one that shows up here each summer and they do not have a parade. I like this parody - one never knows what the Farce will put forth but it is always either nostalgic, charming, offbeat, fresh and did I say funny? And sometimes it is all these rolled into one. Love your stuff Farce.
