The Lyrics

Who says you can't make money in a down market...
SPOKEN:

market's history, the people of Wall Street have rallied bravely whenever the profits of traders have been threatened. Today, a new crisis has arisen. The Thornburg Mortgage company, better known as the TMA, is attempting to survive the burden of the massive selloff resulting from the mortgage meltdown of 2008. Citizens, hear me out. This could happen to you!!>

Well, let me tell you of the story of a man named Charlie
In July, on the fifteenth day
He took two grand from his pocket, kissed his wife and family
Took a ride on the TMA

Well did he reap a return, yes he reaped a return
Oh, twenty-six hundred's what he earned (in just three days)
He may ride forever 'neath the floor of Wall Street
He's the man who never got burned

Charlie parlayed all his money on the 20th of August
In the hopes of another gain
By the 26th, his broker told him "more than tripled"
Charlie quickly got off of that train.

Well did he reap a return, yes he reaped a return
Oh, ninety-four hundred's what he earned (in just four days)
He may ride forever 'neath the floor of Wall Street
He's the man who never got burned

The next three weeks Charlie stood on the sidelines
Crying "what will become of me?"
On September 16th he risked his fourteen thousand
"Another opportunity?"

Well did he reap a return, yes he reaped a return
Oh, twenty-one thousand's what he earned (in just three days)
He may ride forever 'neath the floor of Wall Street
He's the man who never got burned

On September 29th, TMA took a nose-dive
As the stock split one for ten
And at seventy cents a share, Charlie bet his bankroll
As the train came rumblin' in

Well did he reap a return, yes he reaped a return
Oh, two hundred grand is what he earned (in just three days)
He may ride forever 'neath the floor of Wall Street
He's the man who never got burned

On the 17th of October, as the leaves changed colors
Ole Charlie went all-in again
Betting big-time to the tune of six figures
He hoped his streak would never end

Well did he reap a return, yes he reaped a return
365 grand is what he earned (in just two days)
He may ride forever 'neath the floor of Wall Street
He's the man who never got burned (pick it, Davey)

SPOKEN:

Now you citizens of Wall Street who all think it's a scandal
How the market makes you pay and pay
Fight the market blues, vote for Garrett Thornburg!!
Ride with Charlie on the TMA!!

And you may reap a return, like he reaped a return
But his fate is still unlearned (good ole Charlie)
He may ride forever 'neath the floor of Wall Street
He's the man who never got burned
He's the man who never got burned
He's the man who never got burned
All of the above trades in 2008 can be verified at Yahoo Finance (under a new symbol, since TMA got delisted recently). If there had been more verses in the OS, Charlie would have more than doubled his money a couple more times, taking his original $2,000 up to more than $2,000,000. Disclaimer: All of the above benefited from 20/20 hindsight and is no guarantee of future performance. To achieve what Charlie did you would have to be the luckiest speculator that ever lived!

555 - I did verify and it is accurate. I hope Charlie put his money in his matress as the follow up song would have to be THMR.PK, which is what happens when you get delisted and also this would be very hard to rhyme and fit in the song structure.

Thanks T1K - I guess I should have done a better job at remembering the submission guidelines - The first 'spoken' line was left out because I started it with a 'less than' symbol - It should have read: "These are the times that try men's souls. In the course of the " - Same problem following the second 'spoken', which should have read: "Oh, that hurts my fingers"
