The Lyrics
Col. Heinz Guderian of tank fame asked in March 1943 if there was a way to produce an adequately armored small TD (tank destroyer) with a powerful gun and mobility to supplement the larger TDs like the mighty Jagdpanther. The captured Czech 38(t) was plentiful so BMM and Skoda used that basic platform to up-armor and up-gun. The little Hetzer had 60mm armor up front, 20mm to the sides, and 8mm to the rear. It had a low silhouette and was armed with the deadly short 75mm PAK 39 L/48 with 41 rounds carried. Engine was Praga AC/2 with a weight of 16 tons and speed of 27 mph! It had 2 aux. 7.92mm MGs, one for the hull and a remote-controlled top mount. A very successful design, after the war the Czechs retained them and sold 158 of them to Switzerland in 1946 as G13. Hetzer means "baiter"!
