The Lyrics

Germany tried to envision a "Bomber B" program as early as 1939 involving Dornier, Junkers, and Focke-Wulf and had by 1941 an improved Do-217 with extended wings, more powerful 2,870 hp DB 610 tandem engine (2x DB 605s), higher speed of 416 mph, greater range of 2,237 miles, and an increased bombload of 12,346 lbs. All of this was the Do-317 of which 6 prototypes were built: V1, V2, and 4 B-series. Only the V1 had a pressurized cabin and all the rest were re-designated Do-217R and sent to III/KG 100 at Orleans-Bricy to launch Hs-293 ASMs for anti-shipping. What started out as a new fast bomber was cut short and later abandoned due to complexity. The Do-317B would have had full pressurization, complex engines, and diverse armament of 1x 7.92mm MG-81Z (twin installation) and a 20mm MG-151/20 in the nose plus 2x 13mm MG-131s in dorsal and ventral positions. As with the Ju-288 and Fw-191, the Do-317 "Bomber B" was cancelled by late 1943...
Bomber B of WW2
since 1939

Dornier sought its 217 to improve
Re-designin’
Do-317 flyin’

Fast bomber German bandit
416 mph, 12,346 lbs (bombs)
Range of 2237 miles
Re-design was to be profound

Bomber B of WW2
since 1939
Out of time

Fuselage new
Fuselage new
Fuselage new
With dorsal, and ventral guns
But then grew despair
Bomber B dropped by 1943
Do-317 was abandoned

Over-complexity
Bomber B of WW2
since 1939
(killed the Do-317)

WCJ, the green house glass cockpits were nothing new for WW2. For the Do-317 it had a fatter fuselage so no "Flying Pencil" look and the triangular tail fins stand out. It's just too bad that production was so low.. also, I wonder why someone 1-bombed my Bomber B!!! My bomber was bombed (pun intended)!!!
