The Lyrics

My best friend and I were discussing this a few nights ago, and so inspired a parody.
The things people say
Are really quite dumb, you know.
If your friends tell you,
"Go jump in a lake!" don't go
And don't "Pin a rose on your nose",
'Cause your nostrils just might really hurt.
And if they say that you have a "fat chance",
Don't play the game
'Cause then you're gonna lose
And you'll feel dumber.
The things people say
Are extremely stupid
And sarcastic, too;
Don't believe a word!
The things people say
Are in fact, the reverse
Of what they really mean; that's quite absurd.
If they say to "Bite me!" then don't do that;
They just might get rabies.
If they say "I'm going to kill you!" don't fret;
It just means they are peeved.
When they say the word "Wonderful!" then it means
Something bad has transpired.
If they tell you, "Sure!"
They won't do something; they are a liar!
So listen to me,
This is just a warning
So you'll not be fooled,
Like you were before!
The things people say
Are extremely stupid.
I'll say that once more!

This pacing seems really, REALLY off, unless Julie Andrews sings some other song called the Sound of Music that I've never heard before.

Joelle, I'm lost here on the pace, too, so I'm not voting. I must confess to not being much of an expert on "The Sound of Music", I know some of the songs start in from a piece of conversation - something fairly common in musicals, but I can't place where the familiar "The Hills are alive, with the sound of music" stuff goes here.

Here's where you can find the real lyrics. http://lyricsheaven.topcities.com/musicals_bestanden/Sound_of_Music.htm#thesound

Joelle, I went to that site and copied the lyrics. Your pace works as far as the syllable count but the word sounds do not. I've had a debate or two in the past over whether they're supposed to. They needn't match the original; you can certainly create your own line cadence. But I'm really not connecting with any flow here. I gave you a 4-3-3 because I'm just not getting any feel here for the humor.

Ok, thanks for clarifying -- I see now where you're starting from. I don't know that I've ever heard that intro/verse, but then again, I've only ever seen the film version, which unless I've zoned out about 20 times, does not include this.

Just to be clearer, in the future, it might be helpful to make some indication in the text when you're including an intro that's not commonly known to the general public. And think about separating the verses, which also makes it much easier to read.

Other than that, I'm pretty much aligned with Paul.

I have to agree with Paul and Leo...but I'll give it 444
