The Lyrics

Here is the song all about that 1951 "Beat the Clock" broadcast featuring all 300 boy scouts, with Roxanne, the elephant and Bud Collyer, live from Manhattan.
Now, this here's the story of the Manhattan live
The Manhattan live, she runs down into New York City
There's a big show ticket here
And, y' know, if you got certain things on board
When you go through the showing
Where you see the 300 boy scouts for them
Well, host Bud Collyer, he pulled up to the broadcast
The man only asked him what he had on board, and he said

"I got broadcast, I got broadcast
I got dogs, I got skunks, I got elephants, I got Congressman, I got all animals"

Well, he said, "you're alright, boy
You're terrific, cheesecake!
You just go right on through"
So, scouts went on taking a picture, and as he went through
He started seeing up the elephants
Picking up a little bit of dogs
He got on through he turned a look back to Roxanne, he said

"Well, I fooled you, I fooled you
I got skunk iron, I got skunk iron
I got all skunk iron"

Down the Manhattan Live is a mighty good show
The Manhattan Live, it's the road to watch
The Manhattan Live, it's a mighty good show
Well, if you want to watch you gotta watch like you find it
Get your ticket at the station of the Manhattan Live

It was cloudy in the west, looked like rain
But round the corner come-a elephant show
North-bound show on the south-bound tickets,
You were all right leavin' but you won't be back

Down the Manhattan Live is a mighty good show
The Manhattan Live, it's the road to watch
The Manhattan Live, it's a mighty good show
Well, if you want to watch you gotta watch like you find it
Get your ticket at the station of the Manhattan Live

Now I may be right and I may be wrong
But you're gonna miss me when I'm gone

Well, the directors said before he died
There were 300 boy scouts he'd like to have tried
The scouts asked him "What could they be?"
She said "Let's take your picture, Roxanne!"

Down the Manhattan Live is a mighty good show
The Manhattan Live, it's the road to watch
The Manhattan Live, it's a mighty good show
Well, if you want to watch you gotta watch like you find it
Get your ticket at the station of the Manhattan Live
