Song Parodies -> Ol' Dodge Dart
| Original Song Title: | "Cold Cold Heart" |
| Original Performer: | Hank Williams |
| Parody Song Title: | "Ol' Dodge Dart" |
| Parody Written by: | Alvin Rhodes |
i bought the car some years ago
fulfilled my teenage dreams
the smell inside was all brand new
the paint so bright, it beamed
i never drove it rough and fast
i knew that wasn't smart
i treated it so very kind
i loved my ol' dodge dart
i tinkered with it all the time
to make that car run true
if ignorant, i soon found out
the upkeep i must do
the belts were changed, the brakes were bled
it never failed to start
to other cars, my eyes were blind
preferred my ol' dodge dart
you'll never know how much it hurt
when buddies would reply
you ought to get another car
give something new a try
those words just cut me like a knife
i shunned the auto mart
the price of cars was off the chart
i kept my ol' dodge dart
and now its time for me to leave
i'm nearly ninety-three
and all the friends that taunted me
are now just memories
i never got a car, brand new
mine never fell apart
and now to you, dear son of mine
i will my ol' dodge dart
fulfilled my teenage dreams
the smell inside was all brand new
the paint so bright, it beamed
i never drove it rough and fast
i knew that wasn't smart
i treated it so very kind
i loved my ol' dodge dart
i tinkered with it all the time
to make that car run true
if ignorant, i soon found out
the upkeep i must do
the belts were changed, the brakes were bled
it never failed to start
to other cars, my eyes were blind
preferred my ol' dodge dart
you'll never know how much it hurt

those words just cut me like a knife
i shunned the auto mart
the price of cars was off the chart
i kept my ol' dodge dart
and now its time for me to leave
i'm nearly ninety-three
and all the friends that taunted me
are now just memories
i never got a car, brand new

What year is your Dodge? I still like my '86 Chrysler. They aren't building cars like that anymore. Soon, the way things are going, they won't be building cars anymore. Fiat Ferrugo (Let there be rust).
When I was a kid, the neighbor across the street had three Dodge Darts. A red one, a white one, and a blue one. I always wondered why he had three, but after reading this, I know why.
I had some great memories in MY old Dodge dart! Perfect subs to the OS! Enjoyed it...
Never owned a Dodge Dart, but love Hank's songs and car parodies...and you've done a great job on this one...
Great parody for all of us think that cars were a little more distinct many years ago. Now, they all look alike. Well done, Alvin.
I have owned a Dodge Dart before, as have many people in my extended family. They are very good cars, with an exceptional reliability record, and one can still see them in daily use today. Mine was a purple 1971 two-door hardtop with a slant six and an automatic on the column, and I still see someone delivering newspapers in it even 8 years after I sold it because I thought it had too much collector value for me to drive it every day. 5s for you, Alvin.
Good one - never heard of a Dodge Dart till I just Wiki'd it. I like the look of the very early ones but some of the others look a bit nondescript - especially the estate version .

Nice, reminded me of my dad's old Studebaker, but there wasn't much left of it by the time I was old enough to drive. You're driving to three 5s.
