The Lyrics

This is the full version, i don't know how to edit or delete my previous one
I am the very model of a student undergraduate
My knowledge on my chosen course is near enough immaculate
At least that’s what I tell my folks when they ask how I’m getting on
(I’m always doing slightly worse than ever I am letting on)
My course come’s first, except for when I’m feeling lousy or depressed,
Or if I’m bored or fidgety or hungry or I need a rest
And then there is my girlfriend, my computer and the college bar
I haven’t done a single piece of coursework in this term so far

I try to sleep in seminars and take notes simultaneously
With head in books so knowledge enters my head percutaneously
I go out drinking every night with my brain set to “saturate”
I am the very model of a student undergraduate

I don’t delude myself in thinking I will get a lot of chicks,
If I can cite the greatest deeds of Gallic Vercingetorix
Osmosis is a mystery, and so is how stuff can diffuse,
Don’t even talk to me about the square of the hypotenuse.
I’ve not done physics so I’ve got no clue about astronomy
I do not know the nuances of our macro-economy
No psychoLOgy courses have I done that can explain a dream
The mainstay of my course is on the Leeds United football team

I’m young so you’d assume I’m full of pep, vigour and energy,
In truth I do not stir from bed until the clock approaches three,
Am I a vegetable or just animal inanimate?
I am the very model of a student undergraduate

I have a student loan which is for books and food and station’ry
It really goes on drugs and booze and clothes quite unashamedly
I spend my lectures writing notes (to people sitting close to me)
And calculating how much beer makes up a lethal dose for me
I copy off the internet and paste in my work, word for word
I’ll have to put my back into this course to even get a third
I couldn’t tell you anything my course will qualify me for
Except to pack the shopping bags down at the Tesco superstore

My academic studies are a financial atrocity
Pay through the nose, and if I don’t? get kicked out with ferocity
I’ll come out with a nice degree and over 20 grand in debt
I am the very model of a student undergraduate

haven't seen your stuff before Alex, but this is very assured, perfectly-paced stuff - hopefully you'll stick around - you should think about entering the comps too - that adds a whole new level of enjoyment to this site - check out the messageboard - 555

wowsers! A very confident piece of writing here, Alex...a talent to keep an eye on. I agree with Stu: we're always looking for new faces in the comps. Great stuff. 555+

chock full of witty rhymes and good pacing...as one has to accomplish to pull off any G & S parodies....very well done

Ah, there we go. stu and kris are right, this is contest material. 555
The previous version will likely stay forever, but don't sweat it.

Brings back memories, except the football teams I rooted for were of the American variety. As for computers, I was in college during the punch card Fortran era.

Have you been stalking me with a hidden camera and microphone??? I thought i was reading my own diary!!! LMAO!!! This was great, i don't know the OS but it flows and rhymes really well and the content is great! Loving it! 5-5-5!!! P.s. How do you actually enter comps? can you enter previous parodies so long as you haven't entered them before?
Walt Conner - October 23, 2007 - Report this comment
Make sure you reference this "being published" on you first resume... 555

How is it that you can use words like "percutaneously", but can't use a simple verb like "comes" without putting an apostrophe in it? ... Oh, I get it -- you're showing us the typical undergrad... sad but true, unfortunately. :-( More than compensated for by the attention to detail of capitalizing LO to "nudge-wink" (Stuart's term) the "adjusted" pacing of "psychology". Lots of good lines and chuckles. 555, and a very warm welcome to AIR.

I love this OS and your debut was generally marvelous!

Cheers everybody! In response to tommy turtle. I'll be honest with you, that first verse has been sitting in my MS Word save folder for 2 years and I never got round to spell checking it!

Marvellous - definitely a worthy SOTM entry (especially with the extra verse)... and I'll second what TT said re "percutaneously" and the tendency towards apostrophitits :-)

SOTM - What I said about Phil's MG SOTM parody.

Student loan department: Your student loan payment is past due. Please send in payment of $555.00 which includes interest and late fees.

Wow.... A n00bie, and a very educated one as well. Awesome work here. It's good to see you around the boards and participating in contests.

SOTM - You might end up at Tesco Superstore this way, but at least you're staying out of Yale! Impressive first SOTM entry here Alex, it has top half (or better) written all over it.

(SOTM) Impressive, especially for a first time entry. . .although what possessed you to choose this as your first song? I still don't know what draws so many AmIRighters to parody this song---this is the second parody of this song in this Month's competition.

(SOTM) Here's hoping you haven't shot your wad completely with this one, coming out of the gate at full speed.

SOTM- This was really good (and challenging) for a newbie. Now keep it going! Well done, Alex.

(SOTM) I have a theory: Alex J = newbie in terms of parody total, but Alex J does not = newbie in terms of skill! This is actually one of the best MG parodies I've seen, even if you missed the chorus parts. Lookin' forward to more of your works!
stuart mcarthur - November 29, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) oh wow, I was your first commenter, and I'm glad you took my advice about entering the comps, Alex - not often does a first parody submission have such perfect pacing, so you've obviously been doing them for a while - hope you stick around - we're a very cosy positive bunch ;-) (well, sometimes)
Kristof Robertson - November 29, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) See above. Well done for entering this, Alex...it's a real medal contender. Amazing detail, technical skill, and humour on display here. Bravo!
McKludge - November 29, 2007 - Report this comment
SOTM - Lots of newbies submit here, but often are just average. But every so often a good one shows up and shines brightly. One of the reasons I keep coming by. This was top notch, damn sight better than my first SOTM entry.

(SOTM) Excellent!

Well, you certainly captured my undergraduate college years. Incredible job, regardless of whether it's your first effort (on amiright) or not :)

555 for this college days parody!
