Song Parodies -> Yankee Doodle--Again?

Original Song Title:

"Yankee Doodle Dandy"

Original Performer:

George M. Cohen

Parody Song Title:

"Yankee Doodle--Again?"

Parody Written by:

Ingeborg S. Nordén

Between the election controversy and the results of a recent baseball game, it seems that "Yankee Doodle" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy" are on their way to becoming the next over-parodied songs here. Everyone's got the right to his own opinion on sports and/or politics, though I do wish they'd find a new melody for expressing it...
I know Yankee Doodle's handy,
it's the song that wouldn't die.
Don't mind election jokes or baseball fans;
still, there are more tunes to try.

We're not all Yankee Doodle sweethearts;
hearing new songs is a joy.
Yankee Doodle parodies ad nauseam sounds phony:
knock off the Yankee Doodle, boy!

What would you prefer: "Swing Low, Swede Chariot"?

Nice one, Ingeborg and while I disagree, you raise an interesting point. However with the election only two weeks away and baseball season in full swing, you should probably brace yourself for more. [but not by me :-) ] 555

It wasn't the topic I was objecting to, just the overuse of two specific songs as an "original": for what it's worth, I've seen some regulars here composing enough-is-enough parodies after people submit half a dozen new texts for standby songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover". Heck, even Weird Al parodied "Achy Breaky Heart" by saying how much he'd rather hear anything else BUT:

Don't play that song--
That achy breaky song--
The most annoying song I know!
'Cause if you play that song--
that achy breaky song--
I might blow up my radio.

So please, don't take my protest as a mean-spirited attack: I didn't intend it to come across that way. P.S. As for "Swing Low, Swede Chariot"...what did you have in mind, some yuppie getting his Volvo into a three-car pile-up? *snicker*

LOL :-) Excellent, Ingeborg - and I agree completely with the spirit of the song. And "Swing Low, Swede Chariot"- sounds more like the suspension's shot:

I looked in the garage and what did I see
(Off to the mechanic you go)
Hydraulic fluid, leaking over me
(Off to the mechanic you go)
Swing low, Swede chariot
(Off to the mechanic you go)
etc...

Hey Ingeborg, checkout "All I Wanna Do Is Trash This Song" at bobrivers.com. You'll laugh until it hurts. :-D

Oh. My. Gods... I surfed over for a look at the lyrics; it's not every day that I can use "LOL" and mean it literally. Thanks!
