Song Parodies -> Hamlet

Original Song Title:

"Tammy"

Original Performer:

Debbie Reynolds

Parody Song Title:

"Hamlet"

Parody Written by:

Mari Aranoff

Since I work in a college theatre department and they're doing "Hamlet" this spring, this had to be done!
Something is rotten in Denmark, I see
Hamlet - to be or not to be!
The ghost of thy father is calling to thee
Hamlet - what is reality?

Your mother and uncle have wed
You wish him dead
You've messed up Ophelia
Killed her old man instead

So was it dreamt of in your philosophy?
Hamlet -- to be or not to be!

Rosenkrantz, Guilderstern -- they got the boot.
Hamlet! Hamlet! Go get the king!
Your old friends from school have played you like a flute
Hamlet! Hamlet! The play's the thing!

Laertes has turned, wants revenge
You've exposed king's lies
Swordplay -- you fought and you lost, almost everyone dies

This story is a tragedy, but it's not dull
Now Ho-ratio holds Yorick's skull.

Excellent parody, Mari. You are correct that the parody had to be written ... and the writer had to be MAD!

Thanks, John, Diva, Birg, Dave, Alvin & Johnny! I showed this to my boss and he "thanked" me for putting "Tammy" in his head. After studying the lyrics in order to write this, I have realized how awful they really are! Johnny, I still have fond memories of "Cecilia"/"Ophelia"...

Good work Mari. You got all the pertinent references to the play in there too. Before I shuffle off this mortal coil I've got to give you 5s
