Had a big crush on my best friend
Everything about her I liked
Once I tried to kiss her
That was the end
She hollered “You’re a dyke!”

Mom and Dad loved me so;
Raised me right; and watched me grow.
Took me to Disneyland
Gave me hugs and held my hand
Sacrificed every way
Till the night I told my parents

Crazy way they acted
Don’t know why
It seems I made my poor mama cry
They kicked me out because I am not straight

Coming out, I complain
It’s really such a pain
Being out, watch your back
Someone just might attack
Nasty names, ugly tone
Why can’t they just go and leave me alone?

Coming out’s hard to do
But hiding costs you too.
Self-respect is the way
No shame in being gay
Saying what’s true for you
A very liberating
