The Lyrics
The Vicarage
Connor
So this is what it’s like outside.
My face is known, my hands are tied,
The law’s a sod!
The papers have my story told
It’s hard to get back in the fold.
The law’s a sod! In a blur I go around
Hoping I’ll soon be found.
(He sits down outside a vicarage. Confronted by an inebriated vicar!)
Vicar
Come in, young man, you look quite tired
And the fog is drawing in.
I’m sorry if I seem to mumble
Must be age, or else the gin!
Like to join me in a bottle?
Share my supper if you like.
Take a pew and stay till sun-up
Have a nap, then on your bike.
Connor
He gave me half his food and more than that, his booze.
These bottles that I’ve got are more than I had drunk
In all the years in jail. Something I wouldn’t choose.
But yet he took me in; the poor sod took me in -
He looked a drunk to me, but still was very kind.
I hoped he didn’t see that when he went to bed
I took some red and white then disappeared
Into the night!
(Taking two bottles of wine he runs off, but is quickly apprehended)
