The Lyrics

If this doesn’t conjure up an image in your mind of that 1951 “Beat the Clock” show featuring 300 Boy Scouts, nothing will. Originally sung by Doris Robbins.
Here’s the scene, that no one’s seen
Since 1951, is the cheering and jeering
Of that lively “Beat the Clock” show...

All 300 Scouts from that troop;
Scouts were meeting, and their feet beating
On the stage of that merry “Beat the Clock” show...

It all began,
The day “Roxanne” thrilled those Scouts in a charming way,
‘Need I further say?
Once the show was through, the stage had hundreds cheering,

What’d it meant? An elephant was guessed,
Three hundred guests took a picture of “Roxanne” that night
On that “Beat the Clock” show...

Kinescope copies as rare as floppies,
And gone’s the thrill that made one Scout willing
To marry “Roxanne” on that “Beat the Clock” show...

And what a line!
He let her know that she was fine,
With words divine...
Some great words that weren’t fake,
“Boy, you’re terrific cheesecake!”
That’s what happened on that “Beat the Clock” show!!

More has been written about this particular broadcast on this site in the past several weeks than in the entire history of the internet. It is amazing, really, that this broadcast is not yet known about by more people already. Simply spreading the word about it at work can do wonders.

One of the harder Ben Pollack songs to parody. Great parody about a great broadcast — and in perfect time with the original record.

The greatest moment/idea in television/human history, even better than MyPillow and its family of products. That’s the truth.
