The Lyrics

I wrote this parody for my community's puppet team...then I realized it was probably too dark for children, and will perform it at a teen retreat instead.

Note: I know it's hard to line up the lyrics with the tune, but I made sure the rhythm and stuff was identical to the original...which was impossible to tell when to start each line!
So long ago, I don't remember when
That's when they crucified my holy friend
Well, they said He died willingly
So we could all be free
They crowned Him and they nailed Him to a tree

They seen the Son comin' up out of His tomb one day at dawn
The guards were asleep and never saw
He said He opened up the gates
So we could see God face to face
He said we all were welcome in this place

Hey hey hey hey
Come on life is little
Heaven is forever
There's gonna be somethin' better than
What we're livin'

He saved us all from Hell
We're in this all together
We can all go home
And be one in Christ

Now Hell is cold
And fire rains down every day
And you can't break away from that place
But God has left an opening
In His Kingdom just for me
In fact it's there for everyone He meets

And I seen the Son in my prayers
At my Sunday school and church
Sayin' if I'm good then I can live with Him
We'll pray until we're out of breath
We'll praise until there's nothin' left
No evil in the end, cause that's His dream

Hey hey hey hey
Come on life is little
Heaven is forever
There's gonna be somethin' better than
What we're livin'

He saved us all from Hell
We're in this all together
We can all go home
And be one in Christ

Well, this world is cold
It feels like I'm the only one
I've tried to preach to them but they don't like my words
Well, all they seem to care about
Is fashion, funds, and fun
Sometimes I wonder if they'll ever learn

But Jesus says that if you have a tiny seed of faith
And trust in Him then it will be enough
And Jesus said, I need to pray for them and so I do
I think it's working cause my friends are shaping up

Hey hey hey hey
Come on life is little
Heaven is forever
There's gonna be somethin' better than
What we're livin'

He saved us all from Hell
We're in this all together
We can all go home
And be one in Christ

While I'm not into religion, this song was okay. You might like Royce Miller's "At 33".
