| Parody Song Title: | "Bella Came Home" |
| Parody Written by: | Mari Aranoff |
Another dog story in my neck of the woods has made national news. Bella was an dog with no collar or license who ran off, only to end up at the Humane Society, who has strict rules about dogs without ID being put up for adoption after five days if the owner doesn't claim them. For some reason, the original owner, a very manic woman named Niki, did not see her pet at the shelter until it was too late. When she failed to get Bella back, she sued. On TV, she tearfully pleaded ("My dog is my daughter... and, oh yeah, I have two sons"...) with the new owners (who adopted Bella as a gift for THEIR daughter). Those people were vilified by the media. Upon Bella's return, Niki offered to buy a new dog for the ten-year-old. The story made the front page of our local paper, right next to the State of the Union address. Niki also said that if she did not get her dog back, she would have had a nervous breakdown. This one's for the dog...
Bella came home - owner Niki's thrilled
There was a custody battle
The golden retriever just took a dump
Tired of old Niki's prattle
Niki says that Bella is her child
And as she strokes her fur
Without the dog she'd go insane - not far
To go for her
Bella saw all the reporters there
And as the home was inspected
She went to the rooms of her owner's sons
They were both feeling neglected
Niki says that Bella is her child
And as she strokes her fur
Without the dog she'd go insane - not far
To go for her
They found her without a collar
New folks paid two hundred dollars
Daughter's 10-year birthday present
Family was dissed, not pleasant
Niki was a basket case
Some doubts about her brain
Her ranting tirades, screams and cries made
Howard Dean look sane
Fit the pooch with GPS
And send the lawyers back
The dog's not dumb, so she thinks "What a mess!"
Bella came home
Bella came home...
There was a custody battle
The golden retriever just took a dump
Tired of old Niki's prattle
Niki says that Bella is her child
And as she strokes her fur
Without the dog she'd go insane - not far
To go for her
Bella saw all the reporters there
And as the home was inspected
She went to the rooms of her owner's sons
They were both feeling neglected
Niki says that Bella is her child
And as she strokes her fur
Without the dog she'd go insane - not far
To go for her
They found her without a collar
New folks paid two hundred dollars
Daughter's 10-year birthday present
Family was dissed, not pleasant
Niki was a basket case
Some doubts about her brain
Her ranting tirades, screams and cries made
Howard Dean look sane
Fit the pooch with GPS
And send the lawyers back
The dog's not dumb, so she thinks "What a mess!"
Bella came home
Bella came home...

Mari D - By some happenstance of fate I was sitting around here with Ray & Lori yesterday morning trying to remember the title to this song and who sung it. I had to go to "allmusicguide.com" (An excellent information source for Artists, Song titles, Band and Artist Bio's and links to other performers. The only fault I've ever found with them is with A FEW of their album and song reviews being totally off-base and clueless) to find out it was Shawn Colvin and then the whole song came back to me (the only one of her's I know, I think). So I might have passed this one by if we hadn't talked and I hadn't checked into it some more. Your reward "fur" all this is a voter bearing a tag with "555" that I'll attach to this parody's collar. Nice job. Truly a Loony dog-lady (and how many of us thought it was just "cat ladies" who were bonkers?), and the lawyers, well, I won't knock ALL lawyers because my Dad was one and so are a couple of folks I used to work with and they are all decent folks, but SOME lawyers ought to be put in the custody of this woman for about 6 months before they take another case like this.
Sounds like wag the dog to me. DKTOS but the lyrics are very good especially making Dean look sane. Let weeping slogs cry.
Ya know, once again song selection is everything here. Sunny was a basket case herself, so you have that going for you right from the start! Great job, but that is to be expected from you. No need for a few small repairs. I'd even say you nailed this with a vengence . . . :D
Thanks, Guy & Stray! Wonder how Bella's doing now...
The Howard Dean line did it for me! ;-D
DKTOS, and never even heard the story for some reason....but she must be crazy to make Howard Dean look sane
DKTOS, but it looks like a good read.
DKTOS...but....I know Shawn Colvin's stuff pretty well - and I've seen her live a number of times back in the days when she used to perform around Boston, Cambridge, and at Passim (formerly Club 47, now Club Passim, in Harvard Square). Also....I like doggies....so put all that together and I'll give ya 5's.
Thanks Merry, wdh, Adagio and Johnny! I'm surprised that there are so many DKTOS's, since it was a big Grammy winner om 1998.
Great job, Mari D
Thanks for making a few small repairs to the original. Sweet!
