The Lyrics

It's very difficult to get Lyle Lovett's timing down pat in this song, since most of the verses are somewhere between spoken and sung. This is my best effort. :)
You say you're tired of Dubya
Man, as if I couldn't tell
You say your income tax is rising
And your job is shot to hell

And he's spending all our money
In Iraq and Afghanistan
Social Security's in a crisis
And this ain't the promised land

Say "Bush, go back to Texas"
That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
D. C. don't need him anyway

That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
D. C. don't need him anyway

So I was, I was born and raised in freedom
And it means so much to me
But the Patriot Act came from out of Congress
Thanks to Bush and the G. O. P.

And when they passed this legislation
They asked me "Why put up a fight?"
"How come you're always going on about those civil rights?"

I said "That's right, go back to Texas"
That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
D. C. don't need him anyway

(Repeat chorus)

Oh, his limo will look lovely
As we watch it pass on by
And we'll try to show him all five fingers
As we wave his car goodbye

Democrats once had the White House
We sho' enough did fine
And our budget finally balanced
And we had a prosperous time

Now Condi's up at State
And old Rummy's in the Pentagon
And Dick Cheney, he's out a-hidin'
In an secret location

That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
D. C. don't need him anyway

(Repeat chorus)

It's not OK in Oklahoma
In Arkansas, it's just not fair
And those old folks in Missouri
Worry 'bout their Medicare

At a ranch in Crawford, Texas
Is the place that Bush should be
And the nation will do well again
If the Democrats can beat the G. O. P.

And we'll say "That's right, go back to Texas"
That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
D. C. don't need him anyway

(Repeat chorus)

So won't you, won't you let me help you, mister
Vote Democratic the way I do
And vote for Hillary if you, if you have to
And when the neocon right wing asks you why you just tell 'em
He's back in Texas
That's right, he's back in Texas
That's right, he's back in Texas
D. C. don't need him anyway

That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
That's right, go back to Texas
D. C. don't need him anyway

(Repeat chorus 3 more times)

Folks like Kerry and Hillary like to ride around in limos. A Suburban is a far cry from one of these. And when exactly was the budget ever really balanced. Facts are way off and the funny is just not here. What's left, pacing? 5 2 2

DKTOS, so I can't rate it, but I like the lyrics. Anyone in federal politics is going to be rich and drive around in limos. Party doesn't matter in that respect. A Suburban isn't a far cry from a limo when it comes to emissions and fuel economy. The budget was "really balanced" in 2000, when we had a major budget surplus. Anyway, don't let the Texans get you down.

I love Lyle Lovett, and am fond of Texas; it was nice to see this song used, and as for taxes, Galveston, Texas, is a good example of what happens when people use their common sense. They came up with their own social security plan and are doing very well.
