The Lyrics

I would like to think I've seen every car (though I know I haven't). But I have seen and done MOST of the things listed in this song. And yes, all of these makes/models/nicknames of cars are REAL. A lot of work and a lot of love went into this song, so I hope that you enjoy it.
I was takin' a walk along the brand-new shiny Auto Row
When along came a semi with a dealer-bound new car load
If you're goin' the way to Porsche, Mack you can ride with me
So I climbed into his Peterbilt and I sat down on the seat
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so many dealer lots
And I said, "Hey man! I've seen every car there is, and that's a lot!"

I've seen every car, man
I've seen every car, man
Seen them near and far, man
I've seen them in the stars, man
Seen all of their parts, man
I've seen every car

I've seen the:
Yugo
Pinto
Shadow
Citation
Wagoneer
Wagonaire
Bel Air
Eagle Vision
Equinox
"Black Box"
VeeDub Fox
Mustang Cobra
Fairlane
Protege
GTA
Testarossa
Type-R
SSR
GT-R
Outback
Grand Am
Trans Am
Sundance
I'm entranced

I've seen old hot rods, man
Pontiac LeMans, man
Concours D'Elegance, man
Seedy used-car lots, man
From Maine to Arkansas, man
I've seen every car

I've seen the:
Blazer
Laser
Pacer
Rendezvous
Quattroporte
Gran Sport
Newport
SuperCrew
Ranchero
Fiero
Camaro
Toyota
Ford Truck
Dodge Truck
Chevy Truck
Dodge Dakota
Avalon
Silver Dawn
Cimarron
Dynasty
Bentley
Liberty
Mark III
Believe me?

I've seen every car, man
Mercedes SLR, man
Seen them burned and charred, man
Abandoned in the yard, man
Or driven really hard, man
I've seen every car

I've seen the:
Grand Ville
Bonneville
Seville
Crown Vic
Chevelle
Caravelle
Coupe DeVille
Squareback
Saleen
Sunbeam
Olds Intrigue
Windstar
Avalanche
Cadillac
Pontiac
Amphicar
Shelby
Ferrari
Austin-Healey
Karmann Ghia
New Beetle
Catalina
See now what I mean, eh?

I've seen cars that hop, man
Some with vinyl tops, man
Seen them raised and dropped, man
I've seen them used by cops, man
Seen them in the shop, man
I've seen every car

I've seen the:
Daewoo
Malibu
Subaru
Colorado
Ridgeline
Red Line
Samurai
Eldorado
Omni
Allante
Sonata
Aston Martin
Audi
Bugatti
Model T
Maserati
Cherokee
Mazda 3
F-150
Esperante
Monte Carlo
Armada
Silverado
Ain't it odd now?

I've seen every Ford, man
Cars with power cords, man
Cars built just for sport, man
Domestic and imports, man
Just take my word for it, man
I've seen every car

I'VE - SEEN - EVERY - CAR...

SOTM...that's a heck of a list...but I don't think you've seen anything until you've seen my sweet old Geo...(may it rest in peace)...=) Nice job!

(SOTM) List songs usually are boring, but you deserve points for fitting them together as well as you did here, and changing the chorus each time, too.

(SOTM) That IS a lot of cars!! Of course, I didn't know half of the ones you listed (if that), but you did manage to fit it into the song well. 5-3-5

SOTM - It's probably impossible to pace this OS perfect, so in all honesty I gave you a 4 on that, but considering the impossibility I'm not gonna hold that against you, I'm halfway through this months entries now and this one goes straight into the shortlist.

(SOTM) See above. I haven't heard TOS in a while but I remember the rhyming pattern Cash used was odd. You captured that well and additonal kudos for varying the choruses. Also, your knowledge of autos is beyond impressive, it would take me forever just to come up with the names you mentioned here let alone put them in any sort of rhyme scheme. And thanks for getting the Yugo and Pinto out of the way first. ;-)

(SOTM) I'll have to agree with AFW on this one. Great idea and execution of it. 555

Red Ant, you're welcome. I guess.

(SOTM) yes, Cash pinched this song from its Aussie author, but his is definitely the well-known version outside Australia - I loved the choruses between the lists - each to a differnet angle/idea, and the further I read, the better and tighter they seemed to get - and the lists themselves started to become funny too - great job, wbmj - 555

(SOTM) You get a triple-5 for leaving my car out of your list, heh heh heh!

SOTM - It's just plain dizzying, it is. What an undertaking.
Spaff.com - November 27, 2005 - Report this comment
This OS is much harder to parody than it looks, especially if you take care (like mustangjockey did here) to fit in the OS's not-so-obvious rhymes (e.g., Rendezvous/Supercrew and Colorado/Eldorado). Extremely well done.

Very impressive, and I liked the video too.

(SOTM) I've always wanted to do this OS, but never had an idea good enough to work with such a tricky song. So, big congratulations for pulling this off with such aplomb, jockey! 555
Dee Range - November 29, 2005 - Report this comment
SOTM Great job on a song that is nearly impossible to pull off. Not many even try, me included, and I love the OS.

(SOTM) This was impressive... I clicked on this expecting the list part to be clunky and awkward, but it wasn't at all.

Nice to revisit this one. Stellar.

No idea why I haven't commented until now. I've been here before. But excellent work, WBMJ. ANd kudos for doing it way, WAY back in '05. Yeah, still excellent.

Can't believe I haven't commented on this one already (possibly 'cause I hadn't heard the OS when you wrote it, but have now) - loads of fun, wbmj. Best of luck with the recording.

WBMJ, you obviously haven't seen my orange-and-black 1974 Mazda Rotary pickup (like the early Ford Courier but with a lower hood, four round headlights in a black grille, lower to the ground, with a cushy interior and a very powerful Wankel rotary engine that gets 11 miles to the gallon on a good day. I bought it from my dad after my Yugo died and so that I didn't have to ride in my sister's god-awful 1972 Ford Custom 500 ex-copcar, and it is definitely cute. 555
