The Lyrics
I turned sixty five a few months ago, and my beard is solid grey
Sometimes my mind goes drifting back, to my younger days
See, I watched the Beatles perform live on Ed's old TV show
Bought beads on Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco
Had paisley inserts in my bells, sandle toes get cold
I heard about that Woodstock, in the middle of day two
but it was just too far to go, there was nothing I could do
I went to alot of outdoor shows, carrying my lid
Went to a few dead events, at least I think I did
but I didn't have to go to Nam, like a lot of my friends did
Yeah, I'm an old hippy and I don't know what to do
They say I smoked too much, and that my mind's confused
I'm an old hippy, so who do I trust
All my friends are way past thirty
I guess we went further than the bus
There are times I just grind my teeth, when I hear somebody say
Hippies were just druggies, stoned on something every day
We watched that Refer Madness and laughed the whole way through
Changed some minds in protest and signs that we drew
and our music will never be equaled, stick around and see it's true
Yeah, I'm an old hippy and I don't know what to do
They say I smoked too much and that my mind's confused
I'm an old hippy so who do I trust
All my friends are way past thirty
I guess we went further than the bus
