The US Army and Marines plan to bring back small arms from WW2 under a new modernization program that would save hundreds of millions of dollars while restoring firepower and reliance back to ground forces. Some are already being used and sold in the civvy markets too.

The US Army also wants the M79 grenade launcher back even though they have the XM25 Punisher. The German HK AGL in 40mm is awesome but too bulky and expensive.

Does this mean that if the Korean M1 Garands ever make it over here, the USMC is going to grab them. I always wanted a Thompson FA SBR. But probably could not afford one, even if they did start making them again. If the Armed Forces go back to these weapons, will they start wearing the M1 helmet again, like Mario van Peebles in "Heartbreak Ridge"?
Springfield Armory makes modern M1As up to Super Match types. The US Army just wants to up the synthetic furniture, add railings and accessories, redesign the flash suppressor, and give it new 30-40 Rd mags! Long barrel used as sniper. The proposed Colt 2020A Titan pistol looks promising too!
