* Automats were used in NY in the mid-20th century to feed the masses (350,000 a day). You entered the place, found a tray behind a food locker, put your money in, the door opened, you grab your tray, and sit down and eat. No human interaction. Dump waste and exit.

Nope ;-(
Jon, so far recycled food is turned into fertilizer to grow more food. It can also be processed to make fuel to run certain types of generators for electric power. In the future, the waste food will be broken down into food components that can be used again, say, in a restaurant. Some restaurants in Europe already do this!
