The Lyrics

This is about One aircraft that should have replaced the SR-71 Blackbird (Habu) in 1998. Information was given to AW&ST in 2013 but only projects a future aircraft. The SR-71 had already been replaced by another high speed aircraft back then. Possibly by the Aurora under many SR designations or by the TR-3b ASTRA. Most likely the latter which is transatmospheric and a space weapons platform. Due to the Russians pumping money into hypersonic aircraft and missiles, the SR-72 seems to be moving ahead as a big drone or manned version.
(SR) 72,
Twice Mach 3,
Part of the Lockheed-Martin family
Need such stuff,
Ceramics, turbo-scramjet to boot,
Replacement for Habu long overdue...

(SR) 72,
Started 2015*,
Lucky to have by 2030**
Reds won't budge,
Have their hypersonics too,
Pak-Da bomber with rocket engine boost!

There's also the MiG-41 at Mach 4.2
* the design has been delayed for a decade. 2013 information was released. 2015 was to be the initial start of the official program.
** 2030 is early target date for IOC. If the drone version is chosen, then the SR-72 will be available much earlier.

it's amusing sometimes, to picture the purple dinosaur known as Barney singing these songs. :) 5s

Interesting true story I already shared here a long time ago, but for those who never heard it- when the USAAF was testing the Bell XP-59A jet fighter (America's first), it was spotted by P-38 pilots over the Mojave Desert who thought the jet smoke was fuselage smoke and went to investigate! When they saw that the pilot was not in distress and that the plane had no propeller, they freaked out and started talking about the classified project. To thwart further "rumors" the crew dressed the pilot in a gorilla mask and gave him a cigar and hat. A Lighting pilot saw this and...Well... you can imagine what happened. On the ground under a tarp and upon taxi to the runway the XP-59 was fitted with a fake wooden prop. Imagine if Barney was around in WW2!!!
