One of my favorite '80s LA bands, The Plimsouls, who recorded the jangly "A Million Miles Away", are a highlight of the B-movie classic, "Valley Girl" (Starring Nicholas Cage - on DVD). There's a nice plug for somebody.
Friday night I watched the news,
The Candidates Show,
I don't know who to choose.
Thinking about the many issues they raised.
Should have changed the station,
For some reason I gazed.
I started staring at each candidate's face.
I realized I'd be trusting one to change the world.
Something in common they all seem to share . . .
They flash a million smiles a day.
A million smiles a day.

They must have kissed that many babies - just today.
I turned the dial - The Oscars were on.
The streets were crowded,
The fans were turned on.
All the faces from the movies and shows,
There in attendance - Where else would they go?
Well, some are working on their third divorce,
Trying to hold on to their passing fame and youth.
Though their careers are really fading fast,
They flash a million smiles a day.
A million smiles a day.
A million flash bulbs in their face.
They may pop too many sleeping pills one day.
