The Lyrics

In 1985, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylan Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson banded together as a unique team, called "The Highwaymen" .. they put out only a few singles and just a handful of albums. All were well received. Their last album was recorded in 1995.
They were the Highwaymen
Not many tunes did they record
Yet, haunting were the hits they scored
They were the roadmen from some classic country times
They were the cowboy quartet great with tones and rhymes
Though two of four have gone where Heaven's souls arrive
Their music's still alive

First lost was Waylon, in two thousand two, he died
He penned great songs and sang with pride
Then, we lost Johnny Cash, with June, he had to go
Left is their legacy, like none the world will know
This lonely vacancy, their records, now must fill
So, they are living still

On Willie Nelson sings, and so does Kris Kristofferson
These two great artists are not done
And electronically all four still give a show
Play great performances, wherever soundwaves go
Yes, they are still around..They'll always be around..and around
And around, and around, and around

Though not by busses, across the towns and countryside
They are appearing far and wide
Two living legends and two spirits who began
We hear their ballads, and they're Highwaymen, again
Alive forever by a digital refrain
So they will remain
And will be heard again, and again, and again, and again, and again...

Waylon Jennings was a part of Buddy Holly's new band, "The Crickets", and was to be with him on the plane that crashed, but J. P. Richardson, aka "the Big Bopper", had the flu and didn't feel comfortable on an unheated bus, so Jennings gave Bopper his (fatal) plane seat.

Very nice tribute, on the order of "Rock And Roll Heaven" by the Righteous Brothers, or, of course, "American Pie" itself. (The OS, not the movie.) 555

Great tribute, 5s, but one problem- "Waylon" is spelled with only one "a".

You are to be commended for the great service you perform, Darren...I don't know how us parody authors could possibly survive without sharp eyed and noble contributors, like yourself,,who, unselfishly donate hours and hours of their valuable time scanning parodies to point out type-o's, or mistakes in spelling, or just any insignificant flaw that they can clinically uncover..Bravo!
