| Parody Song Title: | "Another One Drive on Bus" |
| Parody Written by: | Susanna Viljanen |
For those of us who have built our own computers, this situation arises ahead sooner or later
Need to add more hard disk space
and DVD be done,
Opened up the computer case
and plugged the cables on
Is it SCSI,
is it SCSI for this
Or is it still using IDE?
How are the jumpers correctly set?
Is it master or slave?
Another one drive on bus
Another one drive on bus
And another one done, and another one done
Another one drive on bus
Hey, I'm gonna install yet
Another one drive on bus
How do all these cables go
and where to connect?
How about the power cords
haven't plugged them yet..
Is it mirror, or a RAID array?
Or just one pesky stand-alone disk?
What are the LUN numbers?
I'm taking now the risk...
Another one drive on bus
Another one drive on bus
And another one done, and another one done
Another one drive on bus
Hey, I'm gonna install yet
Another one drive on bus
There are plenty of ways you can screw it all up
And the bring machine down
Misconfigure, mess with jumpers or
plug it wrong way 'round
Now I'm ready, yes I'm ready to use
I've rigged now my own machine
It's time to press now the power switch
and see if it comes up clean...
Another one drive on bus
Another one drive on bus
And another one done, and another one done
Another one drive on bus
Hey, I'm gonna install yet
Another one drive on bus
and DVD be done,
Opened up the computer case
and plugged the cables on
Is it SCSI,
is it SCSI for this
Or is it still using IDE?
How are the jumpers correctly set?
Is it master or slave?
Another one drive on bus
Another one drive on bus
And another one done, and another one done
Another one drive on bus
Hey, I'm gonna install yet

I don't see what a bus has to do with a computer, but it was still funny!
"Bus" as a computer term is the pathway on which data goes to from place to place, from and to memory, CPU or peripherals. The hard disks are connected to disk bus, which can be either IDE (normal home computers, can take up to two or four disks) or SCSI (pronounced "skasi"), which can take up to seven or fifteen devices. You may think "bus" here as the motherboard connector and ribbon cable on which the hard disks are connected.
I'll have to pass this one on to a colleague who's got a good half-dozen or more HDDs, two CD/DVD drives (though he's taken the zip drive out because the new half-gig flash drive is quicker and more useful)...
The parody was well-written (except "Another one drive on bus", which sounds quite awkward) and has good pacing, but it wasn't all that funny. 4-3-4
Oh My God! Can every one stop coping of of Weird al and make up your own freakin' parodies.
