The Lyrics

What's the beverage in your life?
Is your tap water looking quite brown?
Is your skim milk bringing you down?
Does your lunchtime Koolaid taste like dreck?
Beer or wine makes you plotz?

Tell me, what's the matter with Starbucks?
Was it espresso when you wanted latte? (soy in your creamy latte)
Gotta know these drinks don't quench my thirst (my thirst)
I'm just a soda junky
I want to drink some pop!
Swig it!

Pop life—everybody's sugar thrill
Pop life—Ice cubes in the glass to chill
Pop life—Bottle screw-cap or can flip-top
So when I get real thirsty
I just got to drink some pop—Swig it!

Pepsi—Fresca, underneath the stair
Is there any Mountain Dew "round here (or maybe 7 Up there)
Or Dr. Pepper, or Grape Nehi, I don't care (don't care)
And please bring enough to share!
Swig it!

Pop life—everybody's sugar thrill
Pop life—Ice cubes in the glass to chill
Pop life—Bottle screw-cap or can flip-top
So when I get real thirsty
I just got to drink some pop—Swig it!

What's that tickling my nose?
Why, that's where all the fizzing goes (that's where the fizzing goes)
My need for carbonation grows
What hits the spot? I sure don't want water
And hot coffee blows
Swig it!

Pop life—everybody's caffeine thrill
Pop life—Take care not to let it spill
Pop life—Everybody wants to drink some pop
I'm just a cola junkie
I just got to drink some pop—Swig it!

(SONG IS INTERRUPTED BY THE SOUND OF A BOTTLE OF 7-UP BEING OPENED, THEN THE CONTENTS POURED INTO A GLASS OF ICE CUBESsong fades back in)

Pop life—everybody's sugar thrill
Pop life—Ice cubes in the glass to chill
Pop life—Bottle screw-cap or can flip-top
So when I get real thirsty
I just got to drink some pop—Swig it!

Even though you repeated the chorus and I know you of all people hate to do that because you think it's lazy parody writing. I really happen to like the pun on "Pop" and being from a state that actually calls pop pop instead of soda I totally dug this tune.

Soda Pop maybe Matty--but its SODA . . . LOL--Agri sorry, saw that comment in the latest comment, Matty and I have a friendly disagreement on what to call Soda. . .we joke each other about it all the time. When he visited me in Tampa a few years back, he said "can we stop and get some pop" I thought he meant fireworks or something, so well--yeah that confused me, then when he said Pepsi, I knew he meant Soda, which I've sometimes heard called Soda Pop--I will comment on the parody itself later on I promise

I wrote this back in 2008 when I devoted myself to parodying the Prince Hits 1 & 2 album, and I think this was one of the ones I had kind of a "let's get this over with" attitude about...hence lack of choruses. ;) Thanks for the positives.

Hey I love this! One person calls it pop, the other soda. Some of it is cola, and you there's root beer, orange, grape, etc. This is one of Prince's best hits and I raise my can sweet joy juice 2 U!

(ABC) The repeated choruses don't really bother that much, I always try to think of parodies from a recording prospective, so repeating choruses makes more sense to me. Anyway, this one is awesome! I also call it soda, because it's SODA POP,the word soda is supposed to be the identifier word to differentiate the drink from other types of pop (whatever those may be), but most of my mother's side of the fam call it pop so, to each his/her own ;). great job on this one Aggy!

(ABC) You say pop, he say soda, I say soft drink, who cares? Great parody here, repeated choruses aside. And holy crap, 2006, that's an oldie. 555 cans of Sunkist (my fave type of soft drink) for you!

I felt kinda weird for me to be honest, but can relate to the parody, so mixed opinions, nice twist on TOS at any rate
