Parody Song Title:

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

(Ariel, listen to me. The human world, it's a mess.
And they’ve decided to share that mess with us!)

The seaweed was always greener
But now it's been turning black
They make lots of garbage up there
They can't seem to hold it back
Their refuse, no place to dump it
Their sewage, no place to store
So guess where they choose to pump it
Right here on the ocean floor

Under the sea, under the sea
Plastics and metal down here they settle
Permanently
Medical sludge keeps up its flow
Nuclear waste gives us a glow
Whatever they’re flushing all ends up gushing
Under the sea

Up there all the ships keep leaking
And leave us with oil slicks
It seem as if all those tankers
Is made out of ice cream sticks
The fish in a bowl is lucky
They find it to be quite freeing
‘Cause they’re not ingesting rubbish
Or stuck in a six-pack ring

Wo-no, under the sea
Under the sea
More offshore drilling, chemical spilling
Plentifully
If you’ve a chance to leave this fate
It might be best you take the bait
With all this trouble, life’s on the bubble
Under the sea
Under the sea
If you will stick here, you will be sick here
Ultimately
Even the sturgeon and the ray
They need a surgeon right away
Once life was sounder, now we all flounder
Under the sea

The smelt has a welt
The trout has the gout
The chub has a stub and can’t get it out
The shrimp has a limp
The hake has an ache
The jack got a crack and broke
The plaice has a case of swill in the gill
The fluke, see him puke
The blackfish he ill
The sole and the sprat
They looking quite flat
And oh, that blowfish choke!

Yeah, under the sea
Under the sea
Where the sardine he needs a vaccine
Immediately
We face so many threats ahead
Soon you’ll be finding Nemo dead
Each little clam here stuck in a jam here
Under the sea
Each little prawn here feeling all drawn here
Under the sea
Each little snail here looking all pale here
That’s why you gotta’ get outta the watta’
With all of their muck here we’re out of luck here
Under the sea

A couple of the lines seemed a little overcrowded, but overall this is one of the best under the see parodies that I've seen (which is saying a lot)
Claude Prez - February 02, 2009 - Report this comment
I agree; this is awesome! The "sturgeon/ surgeon" line and the "Finding Nemo dead" line were both standouts to me. Great great stuff.
Phil Alexander - February 02, 2009 - Report this comment
Brilliant, both in concept and execution :-)
Arwen - February 02, 2009 - Report this comment
Holy moly, this was good. I mean, EXCELLENT pacing, and while the subject itself isn't "funny" this was so cleverly written that I totally laughed out loud. FABulous!!

This is the best "Under The Sea" parody I have every sang and read!!!!!!!! I echo all comments 100%! I can hear Sebastian singing this version of the song now. Better yet, I imagine him as an ocean environmentalist convincing people to keep their oceans clean and stop water pollution! 5's.

Thank you all for your nice comments

Wow, the pacing was perfect, the topic didn't seem it'd be funny but you got the pacing and lyrics so dang perfect, it didn't matter! Absolutely great job!

An excellent way to get out the word on an important topic. A lot of people don't know how bad water pollution really is, well now they can know. Great job.
Mark Scotti - March 11, 2009 - Report this comment
Very important topic, told in a very entertaining manner!!! Bravo...

Loved how you pulled a complete 180 on this song and instead of Sebastian telling Ariel to stay because everything's so great you used a current problem we have to not only poke fun at Disney (Used to work there I have all respect for people who poke fun at Disney) but to also come up with a very creative take on this original song. Reminded me of something that MAD TV would do.

Other than being from a movie i'm not fond of very welly done

I'm really glad you entered this in the SOTM. I'm not an environmentalist by any stretch but this is truly awesome.

Yeah, well done, Pens. Like others have said, not necessarily a funny subject, but your skill in pacing the parody made it excellent. Especially liked your take on the fast bit in the middle. Keep writing and submitting, and welcome to the site, man.

(SOTM) Great twist on the original song, man. I REALLY liked how you used some of the original words and totally flipped the context around. 555 for sure!

Great work!
Stuart McArthur - March 30, 2009 - Report this comment
(SOTM) excellent - and a great idea to use Under The Sea to make a political comment on what's going on Under the Sea - then there were all the great rhymes, and the bounces of the OS lyrics, like "Even the sturgeon and the ray They need a surgeon right away" and the sardine/vaccine get - brilliantly done Pensworth - 555

(SOTM) I replaced funny with "achieving goal" for rating. I am very impressed with your rhyming and pacing, this environmental painting unfortunately is very real and reminds us all there is more than just comedy that parody is meant for, very well done, nothing negative to point out. Loved the twist against the original, showing the ocean for what it's become. . .excellent job. Welcome to SOTM pensworth, though you don't seem like a newbie at all with a first entry like this.

SOTM...I'm still blown away by this one...maybe even more so this time around. GREAT job!

Welcome to the SOTM, Pensworth. This was excellent and very well written.
The whole "The smelt...choke!" section was super. Keep up the great work !!!

(SOTM) Beautifully written song! I favor the funny songs in voting, but that takes nothing away from this work (and there were some lines that made me chuckle...the rest made me think, this was a very "deep" song). The seaweed is always greener in particular caught my eye (and not just because it was the first line)

Pensworth - May 20, 2009 - Report this comment
Oh I'm afraid not, I'm not actually a singer. And if your teacher heard me sing this you would definitely get an 'F'. Sorry for the late response.

(SOTY) Who is this Pensworth character, and why haven't we seen more from him?:) I see you joined SOTM in the spring like an all-star rookie. Nice job on this, hope to see more from you (when I have time to surf Amiright). This was VERY good.

This could also work well with the other Disney movie: "Finding Nemo". This was a great take on our current state of affairs.
Mark Scotti - March 05, 2010 - Report this comment
(SOTY) I agree with Matthias, except the movie would be called, "Finding Chemo"!!!
Arwen - March 10, 2010 - Report this comment
SOTY...this really was a great write, and I fear from a one hit wonder here on the site. I loved this...

Yeesh, what a cynical pseudohumorous piece we have here. Well done keeping couplets clever and giving us goofballs something to think about. LOL @ Mark Scotti and "Finding Chemo".
