Song Parodies -> O Tich Freeman
| Original Song Title: | "O Superman" |
| Original Performer: | Laurie Anderson |
| Parody Song Title: | "O Tich Freeman" |
| Parody Written by: | Julien Peter Benney |
Yet another tribute to Alfred Percy (generally known as "Tich") Freeman. This time it is in the context of the TCCB's failure in the 1980s to recognise the need for class spin bowlers to defeat the seeming invincible West Indies ("Windies").
O Tich Freeman, O Tich, O greatest of slow bowlers
O Tich Freeman, O Tich, O greatest of slow bowlers
Ha. The West Indies look great
But if you wanted to beat them now
Just start changing all the TCCB's priorities
Hello? Do you forget Freeman?
Do you see? How he took wickets?
Why, why? Do you not know?
Well, you don't know it, but it's quite true
And the Windies wouldn't like it at all
Here I begin:
Genuine spinner wanted
Ready to bowl
Just like Freeman, but to novice batsmen
Who'd be baffled
And you say:
Yes, yes, Freeman would win
And you then say:
The Windies would lose, Windies would lose
The Windies would lose, Windies would lose
The Windies would lose, Windies would lose
Here says the Board
More fast bowling wanted
So, so wrong
Not needed, not needed
The Board next said:
Spin bowling is a luxury we cannot afford to have in these times of financial austerity
'Cause when love is gone, there's always justice
But when spin is lost, the Windies will triumph
When the Windies triumph, there's the pressure
Pressure to imitate their violent style
So now!
Remember Freeman, his magic
Remember Freeman, his magic
His magic of spinning
Magic of spinning
Cricket balls
So know now, Board, how we might win
The game of cricket
The Wisden Trophy
Against the Windies
O Tich Freeman, O Tich, O greatest of slow bowlers
Ha. The West Indies look great
But if you wanted to beat them now
Just start changing all the TCCB's priorities
