| Parody Written by: | Vermonter |
I want to start off by saying this more of a tribute than it is a parody. I am in no way making fun of Dale Earnhardt, I am only honoring him.
Goodbye, Number 3
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the lead lap,
And they made you change your speed
And it seems to me, you lived your life,
Like an engine in the rain
Never knowing who to draft
When the race set in
And I would have liked to have known you,
But I am just a kid
Your candle burned out long before,
Your legend never will.
Daytona was tough on you,
The toughest role you ever played
But you won it after 20 years,
And pain was the price you paid,
Even when you died
Oh the press still hounded you,
All the papers had to say,
was that you died on impact....
Goodbye, number 3
From the young man in the 22nd row
Who sees you as something more than a racer,
More than just our Intimedator
And it seems to me, you lived you life,
like an engine in the rain
Never knowing who to draft
When the race set in
And I would have liked to have known you,
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before,
Your legend never will.
We will miss you Dale
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While those around you crawled
They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on the lead lap,
And they made you change your speed
And it seems to me, you lived your life,
Like an engine in the rain
Never knowing who to draft
When the race set in
And I would have liked to have known you,
But I am just a kid
Your candle burned out long before,
Your legend never will.
Daytona was tough on you,

But you won it after 20 years,
And pain was the price you paid,
