Song Parodies -> Mother (Norman's Lament)
| Original Song Title: | "Mother" |

| Parody Song Title: | "Mother (Norman's Lament)" |
| Parody Written by: | Chris Bodily TM |
A song sung by the two sides of Norman Bates: Norman Bates himself, and his "mother". I've toyed around with the idea before, and I thought "Mother" needed a better parody than the one about the mother who protested on Bush's ranch. DKTOS?
Mother
Keep your children 'way from Norman Bates
Keep your children 'way from my motel
It's supposed
To be hell
Mother
Mother
Can you keep them from the shower knife
Can you hide them from the Bates Motel
Oh mother
Norman
Saw you checkin' out that girl tonight
Gonna shower... myyyyy word!
Ohhhhh Normaaaaaaaan!
Not about to lose my mind
But if you wanna kill Janet Leigh
I can show you what its like
Till she's screaming
Not about to grab my knife
And if you wanna dress like a she
I can show you Norman...
Mother
Tell 'em you and I go hand in hand
Tell your children not to understand
Oh mother
Norman
Do you wanna share heads with me
Do you wanna act mentally
Oh Norman
Not about to lose my mind
And if you wanna meet Janet Leigh
I can tell you what its like
Till you're screaming
Not about to use my knife
And if asylums are meant for me
I can show you what its...
Yea
(Guitar solo -- the infamous shower scene)
Going nuts in black and white
But if a remake is meant for me
It's a film you cannot like
Till you're grieving
Tony Perkins got it right
And if you wanna kill Janet Leigh
He can show you what its like
Mother
Yea
Keep your children 'way from Norman Bates
Keep your children 'way from my motel
It's supposed
To be hell
Mother

I played this on Guitar Hero II, so, yes, I do know it. Besides being head and shoulders above the two existing parodies of this tune, it makes for a nice tribute. You know what else I think? I think Hitchcock himself would be proud: Here's 545 ounces of Hershey's Syrup so you can re-create the shower scene.
This kid did so good...so why is it none of the doofuses on this site are commenting except you, JS?
(That's "People r Strange") I agree with Jonathan S. and Allyson (Cute name, Ms. Chaynes) This kid's way-awesome Psycho-tribute is a highly-underrated gem that deserves more comments! Like I said, people (on this site, anyway) are strange.
(SOTM)Congrats for doing the first Danzig song on Amiright! :) This was OK, fit the song nicely, neat comment about the remake toward the end.
(SOTM) I liked how you switched back and forth between Mother and Norman in the lyrics. It's a great concept, and I can't put my finger on it, but the execution of it just didn't zing. 545.
SOTM - A parody set to one of the most bombastic Heavy Metal tunes ever (FYI, this tune is somewhat to HM what Queen\\'s \\'rhapsody\\' is to Rock) how can I not approve? :-)
(SOTM) I like the "share heads" sub for "bang heads" and the OS was just begging to be used in a parody about Psycho - kudos for thinking of it Chris - great work - reads very well to the OS playing - 555
(SOTM) You need to know the movie a fair bit to get this parody. I didn't, but the pacing was great!
Great choice of OS expecially for this topic. It was so good you must be Psycho not to enjoy this one!
SOTM - Interesting idea and good use the OS's end rhymes. If you want a challenge, try a parallel to this parody using "Mama Said" by Metallica as an OS.
Ditto Bobpiecheese.
Interesting, and well-written, but I'm afraid it really didn't do anything for me. But then (rather like my Spidey comment), I never liked the film, either.
(SOTM) Oh my goodness. . .so much horror. . .you clearly are a fan of the genre. . .I have to be honest--not familiar with the film (sorry) but I AM familiar with the song, and your pacing was fantastic.
(SOTM) Ditto Bobpiecheese's comment.
(SOTM) A solid piece of writing here, Chris...but like some previous commenters mentioned, it didn't quite take flight for me. Nevertheless, nicely done. 545
Pacing was awesome,as was the parody,5s
SOTM - Pretty good, and nice pacing. I think this one would work better as a POTM entry though, if you added some creepiness (is that a word?) to the vocals.
