Song Parodies -> Do You Hear the K.C. Chiefs? (A Miserable Season)
| Original Song Title: | "Do You Hear the People Sing?" |
| Original Performer: | Cast of Les Miserables |
| Parody Song Title: | "Do You Hear the K.C. Chiefs? (A Miserable Season)" |
| Parody Written by: | Patrick McWilliams |
I wrote this a few years ago for a newspaper column. With a couple slight modifications, it is still timely.
Do you hear the K.C. Chiefs
Singing a song of beaten men?
It is the music of a football team
That can't make first and ten
The receivers cannot catch
And the quarterbacks can't pass
And the opposition each Sunday
Is kicking their ass
Will you block a little bit
So that the runner may advance?
Stop incurring all those penalties
Maybe then we'll have a chance
Till then we'll just watch
All those cheerleaders doing a dance
Do you see the Chiefs at play
Dressed in their suits of white and red?
They move just like the zombies
From "The Night of the Living Dead"
When the Chiefs take to the field
For their weekly gridiron war
It's a miracle indeed, if they ever score
Well the season starts with promise
Then they lose nine in a row
Keep making all the same mistakes
Adapting way too slow
It's time for a change
Is it time for Herm Edwards to go?
Do you hear the K.C. Chiefs
Singing a song of beaten men?
It is the music of a football team
That may not win again
When I hear what their ex-fans say
I'm sure glad I'm not in their shoes
They'll be back again next year
And again, they'll lose
Singing a song of beaten men?
It is the music of a football team
That can't make first and ten
The receivers cannot catch
And the quarterbacks can't pass
And the opposition each Sunday
Is kicking their ass
Will you block a little bit
So that the runner may advance?
Stop incurring all those penalties
Maybe then we'll have a chance
Till then we'll just watch
All those cheerleaders doing a dance
Do you see the Chiefs at play
Dressed in their suits of white and red?
They move just like the zombies
From "The Night of the Living Dead"
When the Chiefs take to the field
For their weekly gridiron war
It's a miracle indeed, if they ever score
Well the season starts with promise
Then they lose nine in a row
Keep making all the same mistakes
Adapting way too slow
It's time for a change
Is it time for Herm Edwards to go?
Do you hear the K.C. Chiefs
Singing a song of beaten men?
It is the music of a football team

Very good parody of a great OS. But I don't understand when you originally wrote this parody. The Chiefs struggled in 2007; but the past few seasons, the Chiefs have been a playoff team or a playoff contender - with a very good offense.
I first wrote this for my nephews' high school team, the Tonganoxie (Kansas) Chieftans. They also wear red and white and played (then) like the Kansas City Chiefs did this season. "Do You Hear the People Sing?" is one of my all time favorite songs. It was a natural to transfer my parody of the high school team to the Chiefs.
Great parody! Believe me, as the fan of another team that has had a few rough seasons, I can relate...:)
