That night I paid one-thirty per litre, near
price is now one-fifty, what I hear
I thought I could just as well drive on moonshine now
As price of fuel's so dear -

The man in tax office said "Nix, that won't simply do,
No driving your car with hooch, ma'm -
We need you to pay the tax from gasoline you burn
no driving your car with hooch, ma'm!"

Now my face grew sad and old
As answer was so cold
I thought if they were stupid or mean
'cause ethanol is pure and clean -
As we could grow domestic plants
and distill of them E-85
we no more would be dependent on fuel
imported from the lands of strife

Yet the man in the gov'ment said "Nope, that won't simply do,

Now are those suckers stupid or mean -
the answer is not clearly seen
in Sweden it's white lightning they sell
- now that should really ring the bell
I want to drive on bio-fuel which is domestic and clean
which creates new jobs on countryside
and'll boost our economy

Yet Prime Minister said "Nyet, that won't simply do,
