The Lyrics

Tino Martinez is best known as First Baseman for the Yankees. He was one of the team's most loved players since he joined them circa 1996, and one of those who wore four World Series rings with them (1996 and 1998-2000). Immediately after hearing of the Yankees declining his 2006 option yet possibly accepting him back in a different role, I wrote this parody.
(Instrumental intro)

I heard that Tino Martinez would
Play no more, which made me cry.
But then I heard he might stay with the Yanks
In off-field. That would suit me fine.
I wish I wasn't so insane about him.
The Yankees wouldn't have come this far without him.

Trying to touch his heart is like trying to touch the stars.
But Torre needed someone different
To back Giambi up.

Waiting for the stars to shine
And bring Tino back into the Yanks
Even if no more on the field, baby, yeah.

Waiting for the stars to shine
And bring Tino back into the Yanks.
That's where he belongs: with the Yanks, baby, yeah.

Martinez he helped the Yankees win
The World Series some four times over
Though they weren't consecutive.
Still, that's something he can look back over.
And although Cashman, Steinbrenner, and Torre,
Have all decided to let Tino go free,

Trying to break his heart is like trying to shoot the stars.
And if you do retire, Tino,
Your junkies love you still.

Waiting for the stars to shine
And bring Tino back into the Yanks
Even if no more on the field, baby, yeah.

Waiting for the stars to shine
And bring Tino back into the Yanks.
That's where he belongs: with the Yanks, baby, yeah.

Tino (I feel so sad).
I don't like crying (the way I do).
It's so hard dealing (with your departure).
But no bother (bother) "cause I love you even more.

(Instrumental)

Waiting for the stars to shine
And bring Tino back into the Yanks
Even if no more on the field, baby, yeah.

Waiting for the stars to shine
And bring Tino back into the Yanks.
That's where he belongs: with the Yanks, baby, yeah.

Waiting for the stars to shine
And bring Tino back into the Yanks
Even if no more on the field, baby, yeah.

Waiting for the stars to shine
And bring Tino back into the Yanks.
That's where he belongs: with the Yanks, baby, yeah.
