The Lyrics

Another Tom Petty OS...Slight Disclaimer here - I have never, in fact, actually taken a Doan's Back Pain Pill or Caplet...I just remember that I used to see them on the drugstore shelves and in TV and print advertising when I was much younger...I did check, however, and Doan's pills ARE still available, but I cannot tell you whether they work or not...
[instrumental intro]

I was hurtin', had a pain in spine
It was hurtin' so bad I cried
Could not sleep the whole night long
Got up and went to the store
Asked the druggist, "Man, what can I get?
To get rid of this back pain", He said
"Let me tell you something, guy
Doan's the thing to try

Doan's; great for your back
It's great for your back
Would I lie to you, guy?
I wouldn't do that"

He said, "That's a fact
Doan's has got a knack
Take some, you'll feel better, buddy
Get you back on track"

Druggist, yeah, I did believe
Sure he wasn't sh*ttin' me
Thought I'd give that stuff a try
Seemed like an honest guy
I got home; tossed some in my head
Then I put myself right to bed
When I woke up at sunrise
Much to my surprise

Doan's helped my bad back
No more out of whack
I'm not sufferin' today

Much better, my back
No more out of whack
I sure feel good today, man
And that's the truth, Jack

I felt so good; took a ride
I felt OK, man; That dude, he was not wrong
My back is feelin' alright; No more backache, man
And all I took was those Doan's

This is so cool; got relief
Feel so good, I can't believe
Tell you, dude, I do feel fine
No more pain around my spine
Feelin' so much better; spring in step
Took those Doan's; feel great – you bet
List'ning to that guy was wise; Dude was a cool guy

Doan's sure helped my back
Got me back on track
Well, those pills they saved me

Take this as a fact
Doan's did help my back
I wouldn't mislead you, buddy
Doan's fixed up my back

No pain in my back
Do better in sack
I am so damn happy

I'm one happy cat
Let me tell you that
Did me good, I'm pain free

No problem Paul. There is another Tom Petty song you may want to parody. Its called "Mary Jane's Last Dance".

Thanks, Jason...I've been looking at everything on his "Greatest Hits" CD and that's one of them...right now I'm working on "Refugee" and one other that doesn't come to mind at the moment...but I will be looking at "Mary Jane's Last Dance" pretty soon.
