"This Song Should Be Banned"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

"Seasons in the Sun" is a true earworm, and one of the worst of this kind.
Goodbye for now, my sanity
I'm about to yell out a profanity
They again are playing this song
If this is karma all along
I wonder what I have done wrong

Goodbye my mind, I'm going mad
This song is morbid and it's really sad
Now this song is in the air.
I can hear it everywhere.
It will fill my brain and ears.

This ain't joy, this ain't fun,
they should really ban this song
To the walls I will climb
If I hear it 'nother time!

Goodbye my cool, I'm about to shout
These lyrics really gonna make me pout
Of death and suffering they tell
they make my life a living Hell
and that should really ring the bell

Goodbye my nerves, I'm soon a wreck
This song's so bad it makes me yelling "Eck!"
It was since Nineteen-Seven Four
they opened torture chamber door
and now they add up pain some more

This ain't joy, this ain't fun,
they should really ban this song
Some more wine I will need,
This song is so bad indeed!
This ain't joy, this ain't fun,
they should really ban this song
Some more wine I will need,
This song is so bad indeed!

Goodbye Terry, bye Mr. Jacks,
This one-hit wonder makes me swing an axe,
I will need lobotomy;
This song's so awful it can be
it is an earworm sure, you see!

Goodbye now, my radio
I want to kick you straight out through my door
I just can't stand it any more!
Too much suffering and bore
they will add up misery score!

This ain't joy, this ain't fun,
they should really ban this song
and the DJ who aired
should be sacked, that'd be fair!
This ain't joy, this ain't fun,
they should really ban this song
and the DJ who aired
should be sacked, that'd be fair!

This song is sort of like Barry Manilow's "Copacabana", a bouncy melody that is totally contradicted by the lyrics. The original French song by Jacques Brel is titled "Le Moribond" (The Dying Man) which is a bit more direct. The chorus translates "Let 'em laugh, let 'em dance, let 'em have a crazy old time when they stick me in the hole". The French arrangement is in a different key more in keeping with the subject, too.

I actually like "Seasons In the Sun," but even I had to write "See, This Song Is Shunned." It's just too easy a target. So is "MacArthur Park," which I also like. So, like Patrick says, is "Copacabana," which I don't like. Susanna, you may have it worse than any of us: You've probably heard "Seasons In the Sun" in 3 languages: Brel's original French, Jacks' English and a fellow Finn mangling it. You have our sympathies.

Michael, yup, - and also a Swedish version as the fourth. What makes this song such an earworm is that the melody is fairly catchy, and Terry Jacks performs it really well.

Perfect send-up of a deserved song! Jacques Brel is not so alive and well! ;D

Good job on the parody, but I disagree on the subject. I like the OS, likewise with "MacArthur Park", "I'm Henry VIII, I Am", "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" and "Copacabana", but it's "Who Let The Dogs Out?" that should be banned. 5s, and let's agree to disagree, OK? :-)
