| Parody Song Title: | "Freeman" |
| Parody Written by: | Julien Peter Benney |
This parody is a tribute to Alfred Percy Freeman, the Kent leg spin bowler who holds most of the records for wicket-taking in English cricket. He was active in the inter-war period and died on 28 January 1965, having been born on 17 May 1888.
Tiny man tossed every ball up
Took so many wickets every year
Destroyed all but the greatest batsmen
Yet he's forgotten by almost everybody now
Freeman, Freeman, who was he?
Freeman, Freeman, with no living successor
Freeman, Freeman, why, oh why?
He showed us just how
Cricket is to be played
He showed us just how
But we've forgotten now
In a day with no cricket skills
Forgetting him is the obvious response
Freeman, Freeman, just too difficult
Freeman, Freeman, with no living successor
Freeman, Freeman, just too difficult
Tweaking fingers
They've disappeared
A Perfect thing
Perfect thing for today
(Solo)
Forgetting the years of the tweaking wrist
Magician lost, so long ago
Freeman, Freeman, Look for someone
Freeman, Freeman, find a successor today
Freeman, Freeman, Just find someone
Made cricket different
Now it's lost all skill
Made cricket different
Now it's lost all skill
It''s just agression
It was not meant to be that
(Solo with chorus)
Freeman, Freeman, who was he?
Freeman, Freeman, with no living successor
Freeman, Freeman, why, oh why?
He showed us just how
Cricket is to be played
He showed us just how
But we've forgotten now
Took so many wickets every year
Destroyed all but the greatest batsmen
Yet he's forgotten by almost everybody now
Freeman, Freeman, who was he?
