I'm an announcer for radio station "106-5 The Arch" in St. Louis. Following the news that 200 people had become trapped in the observation deck of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis during a festival, I penned this version in about a half hour on Sunday morning.
Well I know why I came up here tonight
To see the fireworks and bright city lights
My friends are all below on lawn chairs
And I'm six hundred thirty feet in the air
Trams to the left of me
Stairways to the right, here I am
Stuck in the Arch with you
Yes I'm stuck in the Arch with you
No power here, just windows to see through
It's so hard to see anything in this place
Just cell phone cameras flashing my face
Trams to the left of me, stairways to the right
Here I am, stuck in the Arch with you
Well you started at the bottom
And rode up those tiny little cars
And your friends, they all start calling
Text you on the phone and they say
Jump......Jump.....
Trying to find a door in this "stall"
But if I opened it, well - I might fall
There's no way I'm gonna sleep on the floor
I'd just roll down the curve to the door
Trams on the North Leg, stairways to the South
Here I am, stuck in the Arch with you
Well, you start out with a cry for help
And you're proud the fire and police are there
And the press, they all come crawling
Strap you with a mic and say,
Speak......Speak
Well I know why I came up here tonight
To see the fireworks and flashing lights
My friends are all below on lawnchairs
And I'm six hundred thirty feet in the air
Trams to the left of me
Stairways to the right, here I am
Stuck in the Arch with you
To see the fireworks and bright city lights
My friends are all below on lawn chairs
And I'm six hundred thirty feet in the air
Trams to the left of me
Stairways to the right, here I am
Stuck in the Arch with you
Yes I'm stuck in the Arch with you
No power here, just windows to see through
