The Lyrics

AIR means Am I Right, of course, but here is pronounced "air"
Yesterday when AIR was young
So many writers sparked and all the times were fun
We'd write our parodies and votes and comments came
We shared mutual respect and just enjoyed the game

We kidded back and forth like strangers breaking bread
But now much anger flows if one wrong word is said
Defensively come blows, when no offense is meant
More critics click adverse, if not, nothing is sent..

Yesterday when AIR was young
So many crazy song submits were read and sung
Then zany crazy themes were greeted gracefully
Sarcasm taken light and not so seriously..

These were the bumper years, when did they all run out
Votes and comments are slim, no spirit moves about
I miss those magic moments, that now, we just recall
This view, is it just me, or is it felt by all

Yesterday we rang the bell
And rode that brass ring..carousel
We need to loosen up the strings..too tightly strung
Go back to yesterday..when AIR..was young

Old days like yesterday when AIR was young

Great work, AFW... AIR has been infested with trolls lately, starting in earnest with Dr. Music in 2007 (remember him?) and spreading like wildfire... I miss the "old" AmIRight of days gone by...

I still hear occasionally from one old timer who shares your laments about what has happened to AIR. I don't vote anymore, but I still see a lot of good, well thought out and cleverly worded material here. Remember, there is an election in about a year, so we are all going to have plenty of material to work with, left and right.

Thanks, Andria and Patrick...good comments

Interesting hypothesis, AFW! I've been on AIR for about 9 years on and off and there has always been some left/right political criticism, particularly in the early years of the Iraq war. There are still many fine parodists contributing regularly to AIR, but something does seem to be missing from the quality of the comments now that "legends" like Royce Miller, Claude Prez, Johnny D, Martha DTox and Spaff are rarely or no longer contributing.

I think that you picked the perfect song on this one....In which you definitely have the knack.....Great piece

Thanks, John...very true and interesting comments...you've been here longer than I have..05 for me...And I'm for commenting, unfavorable, as well as favorable..but they should be done with tact and diplomacy..and I agree about the legends you list...we need more submits, of their caliber to raise the bar and spark more friendly competitive spirit, which could result in better parodies, all around..and thanks, Dave W. appreciate your compl. comments, also.

AFW, I hope you aren't offended when I point out that you have been around since 9/13/04 according to your author page!

And I knew I would omit some legends who no longer participate at AIR, but how did I leave out Stuart McArthur, Kristof Robertson, and Guy DiRito?

John...I noticed my error, later...offended? well, I certainly am..it makes me look another year older... : ) and the three "L's" you mention certainly belong on that list...as well as others, I'm sure
Andria - November 09, 2011 - Report this comment
John Jenkins: Guy DiRito comes back for about 6 months every couple years or so... Stuart seems to have had writer's block for a while and no word on Kristof... they are all definitely legends, we lost 2 (Royce Miller & Malcolm Higgins) far too young by way of horribly tragic deaths...
