The Lyrics

My entry into the "If so and so did ""Wreck of the Edmund FitzGerald"
Is this marine life
Is this catastrophe
Caught on the Big Lake
No escape from the tragedy
Open your eyes, look up to dark skies and see
I'm just an ore boat, I need some calmer seas
Cause I'm steaming hard, riding low
Thirty thousand tons of load
When November gales blow
Really tends to batter me

Fellas, just caught a wave
Water dashed across my deck
O'er the railing, I may wreck
Fellas, storm has just begun
But now my hatchway's gone and caved away
Fellas, oooooh, been good to know you guys
If I don't make Whitefish within the hour
Chime the bell, chime the bell
For wives and sons and daughters

Too late, my hold is swamped
Putting pressure on my spine
Hull may break at any time
Goodby everybody, I'm going down
Gonna stay in Superior's ice water manse
Fellas, ooooh, didn't want to see you die
Sometimes I wish we'd never left Duluth at all

I see the pride of the American side
Chipewwa, Chipewwa, can you feel the north wind blow
Hurricane and rogue waves, one will make my hatch cave soon
Gale November, gale November ... gale November, gale November
Gale November, gale November ... feel winds blow
Where God's love goes!!
I'm just an ore boat, making a trip to Cleveland
He's just an ore boat, with a crew well seasoned
Spare them their lives from these ungodly seas
Easy come, easy go will you spare my hold
FitzGerald, NO! we will not spare your hold (Spare my hold)
FitzGerald, we will not spare your hold (Spare my hold)
FitzGerald, we will not spare your hold (Spare my hold)
Will not spare your hold (Spare my hold)
Will not spare your hold (Spare my hold)
Will not spare your hold (Spare my hold oh, oh, oh)
No, no, no, no, no, no,no
Oh Gitchie Gumee, Gitchie Gumee
Gitchie Gumee, spare my hold.
November Witch has darkened all the skies for me, for me, for ME-E-E!

So you think your November winds can come slashing
So you think my hatchway can take all your bashing
Oh Big Lake, can't do this to me Big Lake
Just let me out, just let me make Whitefish Bay

Cathedral bells are chiming
Any one can see
Cathedral bells are chiming
Cathedral bells are chiming .. for me

When November gales blow

Escellent work. You caught really well the agonous feeling of the event. I had slight issues with the pacing, but none really bad, so 555.

I believe the word you're looking for is "agonizing" Susanna. And I know which line you're speaking of when you talk about pacing -- I see the pride of the American side. My thinking was "pride of the American side" is one of the more spoof-worthy lines in the song and imaging it coming out of Freddy Mercury's mouth would get a big laugh from most people. On the other hand, "I see a listing silhouette-o of a ship" would work really well, too

Always like it when my work inspires imitators. This is very well done. "I'm just an ore boat, I need some calmer seas" is a good line. Bohemian Rhapsody has a frantic air about it, which must be what it's like on a sinking ship. Maybe this parody will draw some more writers into the game. I'll try to get another one out next week.

CML, this came out really well, great work! "Sometimes I wish we'd never left Duluth at all" - I suspect that has never been said before. Possibly anywhere! :)

Great job! I was chuckling a the beginning and laughing out loud when I got to Gitchee Gumee! :D

Merry, I knew before I started that I would use "Gitchie Gumee" to good effect somewhere. That was a no brainer. The trickiest part was figuring out what to replace "Mama" and "Bismillah" with
