The Lyrics

Gun control laws are changing...but not this couple's way of life
We have been shootin' since way back when
Sometimes I never want to use them again
But I want you to know
After all this time
We still have guns
And we'll make the city mine

We still have guns
And we're firing them off
Still have guns
We're blowing heads off
We're still having fun
Cause we still have guns

We looked at the carnage every day
Empty shells every which way
When the cops came
They wanted to know (wanted to know)
Who's responsible
For the splattered brains

We still have guns
We're making then bang
Still have guns
So we have to sing
We're still having fun
Cause we still have guns
We still have guns
They are licensed
Still have guns
That shot holes through the fence
We're still having fun
Cause we still have guns (yes we do)

Shooting, our guns are making noise
Even though we grow old, they're not toys

We still have guns
A Colt .45
Still have guns
The magnum's alive
We're still having fun
Cause we still have guns

We still have guns
That can cause trouble
Still have guns
That can kill a bull
We're still having fun
Cause we still have guns
Yes we still have guns
That we will shoot
Still have guns
We'll injure your foot
We're still having fun
Cause we still have guns

We still have guns
Yeah, still have guns
We're still having fun
Cause we still have guns

Sounds like that DEA agent who told a classroom full of grade school students that he was the only one there who was qualified to handle a firearm, just before shooting himself in the leg.

this parody gave me the idea to write a couple of parodies about other deaths which way out total the gun deaths government drugged kids commit. one parody will be " still have cars" since cars kill hundreds times more victims yearly. cars should be illegal. another one will be " still have carbs" as most all food turns to carbs which can become deadly as they turn to sugars often times causing diabetes. excessive weight gain leads to stroke, heart attach, bad joints, hip knee and ankle surgeries, and the list goes on. huh, i could write parodies every week about common legal things that contribute to many more deaths but only the gun killings we've heard about lately involve government drugs. interesting

@ Constitution guy: faulty logic. I don't buy a car or eat junk food to protect myself from violent crime, though of course there are personal risks involved. Are you saying we shouldn't worry about the gunshot homicide figures (far exceeding the whole world's total every single year, excluding Mexico, which of course is in the throes of a virtual civil war), because we have so many car accidents?

As for 'government drugs', are you against the availability of medication at a subsidized cost for the mentally and physically ill? By far the most dangerous drug is alcohol, which has wide social acceptance. If you're going to court controversy, make sense.

Fortunately I don't have to worry about it too much, Where I live there is strict gun control and very little crime. It must be stressful living in America. I don't have to worry about the firearms my neighbor has stashed away, or that every second person I meet on the street or motorist I negotiate the road with is packing - or carrying a lethal hamburger.

DKTOS, but I'll trust you on the pacing 'cause the meter's very tight. Nicely written with some lovely nearly-rhymes :-)

lifeliver. you may have strict gun control where you live but our criminals arent afraid of the " punishment" as the average life sentence in my state lasts 7 years. over seas, folks deal with crime, we reward it eventually. almost everyone i know where i live owns guns and hunts and there is ZERO violent crime. we know better and have respect for others. the logic against gun control is that almost all of these murders happen in NO GUN ZONES with laws against guns and it still happens. anyone dumb enough to think the criminals will play fair and turn in the guns is just smoking too much hemp. do you really think criminals will turn in their guns? the laws are there already and there are gun deaths from BAD PEOPLE. i worked with law enforcement and many criminals in america have nothing to lose if they get caught and they'll say so. pot has been illegal here for decades and i can get some anytime i want. as for government drugs, the schools here often teach the test answers, not the content and principals and kids in america are becoming dumber every decade. many kids come from government enabled and encouraged broken single parent families, and they are at a disatvantage- all for votes mind you. make them dependant and they need you. these kids dont obey any authority so schools medicate them. want to see a print out with web proof of how many of these gun killers are / were on government meds? almost every one of them. NO NRA MEMBERS KILLED ANY ONE, mean drugged jealous angry hopeless kids did and they are the product of BAD PARENTING AND THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS HERE. call a spade a spade if you seek truth and want to help.

“Lock Your Doors and Load Your Guns” San Bernardino City Attorney’s advice to citizens concerned about crime, 12/2/12 Fellow Citizen, San Bernardino, California is bankrupt. So bankrupt, in fact, that it is cutting 80 police officers from its force because it can’t cut the pensions and other benefits it has promised to its other employees and retirees. City Attorney Jim Penman, when asked about the rising crime rate in San Bernardino at a city council meeting a few days ago, could only acknowledge that “We don’t have enough police offers…and too many criminals.” His final piece of advice: “Lock your doors and load your guns.” guess which political party has ran california for decades

@ Constitution Guy: cogent and well-informed responses, and I understand the frustration of responsible gun-owners in America and the dilemma of the law-abiding members of the NRA. 'Lock your doors and load your guns'? How sad when living in any locality comes to that. But I fear it's a dead-end solution that will lead to more armed crime. As for disarming criminals, I believe it can be done if the penalties are severe enough. Sure, they will still have guns, but a lot less of them, and citizens may be able to emerge from under the oppression of a gun culture.

As you've hinted, poverty, socioeconomic inequality and cultural deprivation are at the root of most crime and antisocial behavior: thus bad parenting, poor education, family alienation, drugged-up dysfunctionals, lack of effective social welfare infrastructure, all the rest of it. That's because your tax dollars are not and never have been going where they should go. But insisting on the right to gun possession is exacerbating the problem in my opinion. There's no easy solution and I don't have the answers any more than I think you do..

I prefer to stay out of it. I really don't want to initiate debate about the issue here. But I've seen some of your usually well-argued political comments around the site from time to time and felt the one I responded to here wasn't quite worthy of you, that's all. Cheers, and I hope we're on the same side regarding the social malaises that plague modern living, though we may not agree on the solutions.

@ Mouselover. my apologies for ignoring your parody yesterday, but I got 'sidetracked'. I guess you have to expect it on a topic like this. I liked the way you kept such a sensitive issue lighthearted and humorous. There's fun for both camps here. Well done and 555s.
