The Lyrics

For those who do not know, a "lunokhod" is an unmanned lunar roving vehicle. Two of those gadgets, Lunokhod 1 and Lunokhod 2, were manufactured by Lavochkin in the USSR and launched to the Moon in the early seventies. They resemble an over-sized eight-wheeled crab and were the Soviet equivalents of the Moon Buggy.
I want to be... a Lunokhod!

Running from crater to crater, as they speckle down the mighty plains of Mare Tranquilitas. The Leibniz Mountains.
The Tycho. Fra Mauro! The mighty Copernicus! The lofty towering Mons Hadley! The plucky little Vitruvius!
The Mare Moscoviae! The desolated Oceanus Procellarum! The mighty Mare Nectaris! The naughty Lacus Oblivionis!
The freezing Mare Frigorium! The Terminator between Near and Far Side! The Vallis Snellius! The Tsiolkovsky!

With my eight wheels by my side, I'd roam! Roam! Roam!

[singing]
I'm a Lunokhod, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night and I run all day.

CONTROL CREW:
She's a lunokhod, and she's okay.
She sleeps all night and she runs all day.

Lunokhod:
I run down hills. I climb on ridge
I go to crater-ee.
In the evenings I'll send message
of all the things I'll see

CONTROL CREW:
She runs down hills, she climbs on ridge
She'll go to crater-ee.
In the evenings she'll send message
of all the things she'll see

She's a lunokhod, and she's okay.
She sleeps all night and she runs all day.

Lunokhod:
I run all the Mares, I run all the Valles.
all the craters I do roam
I wait for the moonship coming
to bring me back to home

CONTROL CREW:
She runs all the Mares, she run all the Valles.
all the craters she does roam
She'll wait for the moonship coming
to bring her back to home?

She's a lunokhod, and she's okay.
She sleeps all night and she runs all day.

Lunokhod:
I roam at the moon. I hope that soon
a moonship will be here
I've paid my return ticket
to back to Earth, oh dear...

CONTROL CREW
She roams at the moon, she hopes that soon
a moonship will be there...

[talking]
What's this? Wants to be taken back home?! Oh, My!
Gosh, Lunokhod, you are expendable! There will be no coming home!

[singing]
She's a lunokhod, and she's okay.
She sleeps all night and she runs all day.

She's a lunokhod, and she's okay.
She sleeps all night and she runs all day.

Never heard of a lunakhod, now I know. I'm guessing she doesn't have buttered scones for tea. Was her papa a girlie too? Fun to read and sing along.

Neglected to mention your staggering knowledge of lunar geography. You must be a native.

Good good Susanna V. Does this make you AIR's resident lunar-tic?

Nice choice-555! I did both the N-1 rocket and LK lander before. Most people remain ignorant of the fact that the USSR had a moon project too or that the Germans originated the spacesuit and rocketships in WW2 (the former by the Draeger Werke and latter by EMW and Dr. Sanger). In the 1920s the Germans envisioned circular space stations and moon rockets which led to sci-fi films which led to the Peenemunde A-4 (V-2) and the rest is history ;-)

The Soviet LK lander is also seen in the movie "Apollo 18"... which is kinda creepy!

WOW! Seventeen votes today *HUGS* to everyone and thank you that you liked the song. Lunokhod is one of the strangest - and cutest - astronomical probes ever made, so I thought it would deserve its own song. The probe being abandoned and dying all alone got its idea on an xkcd strip.
