| Parody Song Title: | "Wreck of Estonia '94" |
| Parody Written by: | Susanna Viljanen |
This song is to to commemorate the disaster of car ferry Estonia, which showed us how helpless we people are against the forces of nature. The autumnal storms took almost a thousand souls to bottom of Baltic 27 Sept 1994.
Well, they gave her the bearing at Prangli, near Tallin,
saying "We'll be at Utö at nine,
This is pride of the Estline, this is mighty good Estonia,
we will get her in Stockholm at time"
Then the Cap'n turned around and said to XO who was listening
Saying "Let's add a little more speed"
This ship has sailed the Baltic for almost two decades
She can take it, yes, indeed"
It was mighty rough seas in the Baltic in September
Waves almost five meters tall
it was car ramp at bow whose locks were defective
in the stormy seas down it did fall
The water poured in at the wide open bow gate,
Bow visor tore off and fell
And when the car deck was flooded with seawater
The ship did capsize so well
When the telegram came to Stockholm harbour
this is what it said:
almost thousand souls were lost near Utö
the're on bottom of Baltic and dead
So come all you sailors, you'd better take this warning
for this time now on learn:
never underestimate the forces of nature
or you may never return
saying "We'll be at Utö at nine,
This is pride of the Estline, this is mighty good Estonia,
we will get her in Stockholm at time"
Then the Cap'n turned around and said to XO who was listening
Saying "Let's add a little more speed"
This ship has sailed the Baltic for almost two decades
She can take it, yes, indeed"
It was mighty rough seas in the Baltic in September
Waves almost five meters tall
it was car ramp at bow whose locks were defective
in the stormy seas down it did fall
The water poured in at the wide open bow gate,
Bow visor tore off and fell
And when the car deck was flooded with seawater
The ship did capsize so well
When the telegram came to Stockholm harbour
this is what it said:
almost thousand souls were lost near Utö
the're on bottom of Baltic and dead
So come all you sailors, you'd better take this warning
for this time now on learn:
never underestimate the forces of nature
or you may never return
For the memory of almost 1,000 Swedes, Estonians, Finns and other nationalities, who lost their lives at that fateful stormy night ten years ago. You are not forgotten.
