Parody Song Title:

"The Night We Drove Old Saigon Down"

Parody Written by:

Susanna Viljanen

It's thirty years now since the end of the Viet Nam war. Instead of the gung-ho patriotism, I tried to put myself in the place of a disillusioned veteran who fought in a war which had no winners and where everyone lost. I tried to capture some of the melancholy of the original song.
Nguyen Tran is my name
and I fought in the NVA
Till US Air Force it came
and bombed up Hanoi again
Since 1955
we were hungry, just barely alive
Tet failed in '68 -
It's the war that I do really hate

The night we drove old Saigon down
And the South was defeated
The night we drove old Saigon down
And the people us greeted
And they were
Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na

Yanks they left in seven-two
Still there was much to do
I fought for my fatherland
Couldn't care of Commie stand
And the corrupt Saigonese
were pushover, they were beaten with ease
But the Yanks were far tougher nuts
and they fought with weapons and with guts

The night we drove old Saigon down
And the South was defeated
The night we drove old Saigon down
- no more land discreted
And we were
Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na

Like my father before me,
I fought in war not nice
Like my brother aside me
who paid the dearest price
it was two million our nation lost
- what a price we paid and what a cost?
In seven-five it was winning time
but have we really gained a single dime?

The night we drove old Saigon down
And the South was defeated
The night we drove old Saigon down
Whom the Commies mis-treated
And all were
Na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na na-na-na, na-na-na-na

DKTOS, but 555 anyway as it looks well paced ( I should say rhymed ) and while not funny falls under my " funny exception category " also known as " tributes/memorials ". That and putting yourself in anothers shoes. My father was in Viet Nam for 4 years and he never talks about it.
