Original Song Title:

Original Performer:

John Denver

Parody Song Title:

"Aspen in Starwood"

Parody Written by:

Andria

This parody is about someone who lives in the Starwood neighborhood of Aspen, Colorado, which is an area known for expensive cars, skiing and extremely rich residents, who drives a dilapidated Dodge Aspen- one of the worst cars on the American market when new. S/he later buys a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, which is essentially a roadgoing race car, junking the old Dodge in the process.
*Cads refers to Cadillac, the famous American luxury car.
It's a long way from Maybach or Bentley
It's a bad car to drive near the rich
It's an old junk car, my Aspen in Starwood
An old, trashy Mopar hoopty rig
Oh, my old trashy Mopar hoopty rig

Skiers are comin' in daily
Rich folks cussin’ me out
I can't remember when I've ever been so a-shamed
I hate my old puke-green sedan
I wanna torch that old puke-green sedan

But I think about Hummers and Porsches
I think about Audis and Cads*
I hate my old car, my Aspen in Starwood
My neighbors have megabuck cars
Oh, I want a new megabuck car

And I tell you, I hate my Dodge Aspen
It guzzles gas, and leaks it too
For I see here the rust in the floorboards
And I’m smelling exhaust smoke and mold
I am sick of exhaust smoke and mold

I have just bought an SL McLaren*
A Mercedes that goes very fast
I scrapped my old car, my Aspen in Starwood
That old, trashy Mopar hoopty rig
No, I don’t miss my old hoopty car

Happy Fourth of July, and always be safe around fireworks.

Great reciprocal on the title, Andria! My cousins are forever into cars, except ones with bad quality. Unfortunately they once owned an Aspen. They actually can buy 5 or 6 cars at a time (no kidding)! We always wondered how they will handle their payment on all those cars. As for me, I'm pretty happy with my Honda CRV! I wouldn't trade it in for anything else right now. Excellent parody! 5's.

Thanks AFW, I'm not really into car status, considering that everything I've owned except a Fiat Spyder that I owned briefly during college has no collector value, and I just drive an old beat-up Ford pickup now and admire the classics and exotics from afar, thanks Alvin, and thanks, Christie Marie. I too have a cousin who doesn't know how to buy anything but junk cars, having owned a succession of cars with everything from severe rust to a forged title on a rebuilt junked car (details on request), and I'm lovin' my Ford F250 in every way except the single-digit gas mileage.
