The Lyrics

Works best with the accoustic version... This one goes out to PR! ;-)
When I came in to work this morning,
The HR guy took me aside,
The conversation, it didn't take too long,
Just enough to hurt my pride,

Laid off, took away my keys.
Laid off, shareholders to please.
Laid off, the big-wigs kicked my @ss in the behind.

I can't believe this organization,
Just watch how fast the stocks go down.
Played like fools, with money while it grew,
And then they axed me the first round--

Laid off, directors to appease,
Laid off, got any good leads?
Laid off, the bigwigs kicked my ass in the behind.

Went out to fix my situation,
Tried to to play the network game.
But they all say, "no one will hire today,
Though I'm sure feeling for your pain."

Laid off, took away my keys.
Laid off, shareholders to please.
Laid off, the big-wigs kicked my @ss in the behind.

Laid off, directors to appease,
Laid off, got any good leads?
Laid off, the bigwigs kicked my ass in the behind.

This one hit close to home...got laid off a month ago, and I've been working on my own layoff song (not to Clapton). Hope mine lives up to this one!

These last two years have been quite sporadic for me due to what has been going on. Great job!

Mari and I sometimes perform this one, next time I'll try singing your chorus and see what happens. (Or you can sing it with us.)

Songs like this will make Howard Dean (or John Kerry) say, on November 2, 2004, "I feel wonderful tonight."

Leah, this is SO COOL! I really appreciate it. Wow! To have someone write something with you in mind is very special. And you topped it off by doing a GREAT job. Hey, I even remembered to "5" it across and "submit" the suckers before I came down here to gush. Thanks. P.S. You probably saw it but ChuckyG responded to your request to change the "Vote/Comments" format so it could be done in one swoop. Good move. Oh, I don't know if you've ever been hit, but I used your name in a posting I just submitted, Should be up tomorrow. It's about "The 1-derer" who stalks "amiright". Later.

Johnny D - Thanks. Missed your remark rushing through today's comments but caught it on the rebound just before I left. I'm ok, but I need to spew out a little bile once in a while 'cause what they're doing is all so stunningly stupid. I've made some plans to visit some old friends up in Northern California after the 1st of the year sometime and I'm going to drop in where Rick & Mari D play on the way up when they play on a Thursday. I'm really forward to the whole trip. Not sure exactly which week of January, probably the 1st or 2nd. Haven't had time to look at many new submissions this week, I see you've been rather prolific again.

The only time I've ever been laid off, I did backflips and jumped for joy. Sure, it was only a crummy part-time job in high school and I probably deserved it, but hey, it's a lay-off nonetheless. Maybe when I get my ass out into the real world, I'll get a lay-off that I'm not real thrilled with. What I guess I'm tryin to say is that I can only sorta relate with this song, but it's still real good. All 5's.

Leah, All Right! I'm very much looking forward to blowing out of L.A. for a bit. Got to dribble out the clock on this game first. Actually I'm still having fun here at work. I begged my wonderful boss to excuse me from some dreadfully boring product testing that was really mostly text review. Everyone was supposed to do it but she's letting me stay with my usual phone support duties. As you might have guessed, I don't have a huge amount of patience boring rote work. A lot of reps like some time away from the phones, but I prefer working with the customers on their problems. I didn't want to spend my last 6 weeks here grinding my guts away looking at boring shit. REALLY looking forward to seeing you and the "D's" on my way up North. I'm aiming for January 8th, but I've got to nail some things down first. Later.
