| Parody Song Title: | "Pocket Fisherman" |
| Parody Written by: | Alvin Rhodes |
goodbye ron popeil
though i never...knew you at all
your gadgets, praised and sold yourself
then to our homes were hauled
you showed us how they would work
and you whispered into our brains
you didn't go for hard sell
and these marvels brought you fame
but it seems to me...your biggest lie
was the pocket fisherman
clever novelty to cling to...and then reel 'em in
and i would have liked to stone you
i nearly flipped my lid
your product broke down long before
your legend ever did
you professed it tough
the toughest tackle ever made
one could be an anglin' superstar
a man with a priceless trade
but it quickly died
and i wrote and hounded you
all you ever had to say
was the warranty...was found to be through
so it seems to me...your biggest lie
was the pocket fisherman
clever novelty to cling to...and then reel 'em in
and i would have liked to stone you
i nearly flipped my lid
your product broke down long before
your legend ever did
goodbye ron popeil
thought i never...knew you at all
your gadgets praised and sold yourself
then to our homes were hauled
goodbye ron popeil
though a con man, you're a...sellin' dynamo
i see you as someone now nonsensical
hawkin' junk that's...guaranteed to blow
and it seems to me...your biggest lie
was the pocket fisherman
clever novelty to cling to...and then reel 'em in
and i would have liked to stone you
i nearly flipped my lid
your product broke down long before
your legend ever did
your product broke down long before

Even were the parody not deserving -- and it is -- you'd deserve sympathy 5s for your Popiel ordeal. :-)
I K-tel you weren't satisfied with your purchase. Please return it for a full $5.55 refund.
A fine tribute to a consummate con man.
Alvin this is brilliant! When did Ron Popiel die? 555
Very, very good. I, too, had a pocket fisherman. You have said what I could only have dreamed of saying to Mr. Popeil.
We both have fishing themes, today...what are the odds of that happening? ..Ol' Ron was quite the pitchman..good work, here
thanks stan, mckludge, john and ravyn (not even sure if he IS dead)..thanks smeg ( i never actually owned one) and AFW
You lured me in with this one...
I have one of those goofy gizmos, and it hasn't broken yet ... oops, did I just admit to ACTUALLY OWNING A POCKET FISHERMAN??? ;-)
thanks merry...thanks johnny...a-HA !
Hey alvin...very funny idea to a tough OS...counting you, we have 3 admissions in the comment section to owning this POS. My favorite Ronco product was the hair that came out of a spray paint can.
They didn't allow fish in the pool back home so I just got a pocket pool shooter. I was regional champ at pocket pool three years in a row until my eyesight waned. And I have never owned anything sold by Popeil. If I can't handle it before I buy it then I don't buy it. Nice parody Alvin. You had me chuckling more than a few times. Isn't Elton parodies fun and versitile? I love his rhyming and pacing schemes. Well executed - he is not the easiest artist to parody. The challenge is worth the pay off.
thanks IB....thanks guy..yep, elton is tough to pace sometimes
you just keep getting better and better. Echoing the remarks of JB, Ravyn, AFW, Mer, & Guy...5's ~ ~ ~
thanks paul
