Parody Song Title:

"The Ballad Of Tony And Gordon"

Parody Written by:

a comment on the British Political Saga of the creation of " New" Labour".. the deal struck between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown re the leadership of the party at the Islington restaurant and New Labour's assiduous courting of Rupert Murdoch to capture the backing of, inter alia, the crucially important Sun tabloid newspaper which had previuously supported the Tories (pre 1997)
I won't fight no more now it's your business
My convictions seem to fade not so black and white
I'm growing tired and time stands still before me
Frozen here on the ladder of my life

It's not too late to save ourselves from losing
We took a chance we changed the Party line
But you misread my meaning when I met you
You wanted more but I knew the job was mine

Don't let the sun go down on me
although I kid myself, it's really Rupert's legacy
You can't allow a fragment of your mind to wander free
You'll wind up losing everything if the Sun goes down on me

I can't find, oh a diplomatic line
You loved me once you know the way I feel
Don't discard me you know I never meant you harm
you'll have the power if you let Rupert bring you back to heel

Repeat chorus

Please disregard comment on "We Can Make a Deal ... " parody. Very good parody with very good placement of the "Sun goes down on me" line.

thanks for the comments Rex and John .. I did consider changing the wording of the hook line to something more literal but the backing track that I have includes that line sung by backing singers .. the metaphorical version works OK I think..
